per Mike Brophy (Sportsnet):

Hearing tonight Stamkos may be signed at between $7-7.5 mil per season

No word on length of the contract...

Good, now can all fellow Flyers fans shut up and concentrate on hopefully getting Doughty or (probably more realistically) Weber?

I'd rather see the Flyers spend their money on getting younger at defense, with Timmonen retiring after next season and Pronger probably not far off either

Flyers don't have much defense in the minors

Well that would make the timing of this article a little embarassing. Not to mention the research that went into it.

Man you Flyers fans dream big!

Our sports writers know next to nothing about hockey. That is why this is taking off. And our "fans" who say they like the flyers but do not really even follow hockey will feed of these writers because hockey is the NFL or MLB right now.

That said, we are dreaming big with Stamkos. We do however have the means to make an attempt at him which is rare considering we have been at the ceiling since signing Briere, Hartnel, Kimmo.

Well, they should hang out with DC sports writers, they'd have a lot in common - know little about hockey, a basketball team that is barely professional, and Donovan McNabb.

Yeah, sports writers are ridiculous. A beat writer for a MLB team shouldn't suddenly take interest in an NHL team just because "Hey, I'm a SPORTS writer!" I give the Pittsburgh writers credit, we have our idiots (Cook, Smizik), but they all seem to have their niche and stick with it.

Now Howard Eskin is all over it. He states flyers will DEFINITELY make a run at Stamkos.

Well that makes me a bit more interested, as much as he hates the Flyers and hockey in general, Eskin has some really good sources and is more often right than wrong

He and his sources were the first ones to predict the Richards trade, for example

He does have better sources, I just cannot stand him. And his hockey knowledge is not up to par.
