Petersen is a Northern California guy (U.C Davis). He's recently turned down HC jobs at both CAL and Stanford. So, I really doubt that he'll move for USC. It just doesn't see to be his style.

It's not a "regardless of how Kiffen does" situation. USC would have fired him last year if that were the case. I would though make the argument that if Kiffen doesn't make the PAC12 champ game he's toast.

Peterson didn't bolt when he lost Kellen Moore so it wouldn't surprise me if he rides this thing all the way down. Which seems to be coming quickly....

Actually, it very well could be a "regardless of how Kiffin does" situation. The reason is because of the sanctions. There are many USC fans and alums that wanted him gone after last season, but it is believed that it didn't happen because of still facing 2 seasons worth of schollie reductions. The belief is that it would be easier to attract a top flight coach when he only has 1 year of schollie reductions rather than 2.

Personally, I think he needs at least 9 wins to keep his job, so we'll see what happens.

Boise State isn't exactly falling apart. They are just very, very young this year and returned only a handful of starters. They have a roster with something like 45 freshmen and very few seniors. They'll be back probably before the end of the season.

A noticeable downward trend to say the least. From the number one FBS winning record (the last decade?) to last season mediocrity, to getting blow out by Washington in your opener.

Hate to say it again, but predictions are upheld. The best Boise can do this year is the MAACO Bowl. Hopefully they won't get blown out by UW again.

And even when Boise is winning, it isn't like 2009 or 2010 where every game is over within five minutes, if it even took that long. Although to be fair, a lot of that may be due to them getting into a tougher conference. Even the 2011 team didn't destroy teams like 2009 or 2010, and I think they widely perceived to be about as good.

and it's taking a toll on the football program (coaches, players, staff).

There was initial talk he was headed to Texas, but the overwhelming consensus is that Petersen is headed to the Trojans, regardless of what transpires there under Kiffin this year.

Trojans sound more likely. In any event, would be sad for him to leave Boise.

The thing too is, that everything depends on the quarterback. Teams get lucky with a really good QB for a few years, then have to break in a newbie. Team suffers. And to get a really good QB not only takes good talent eval, it takes a whole hell of lot of luck.

My bet is there is no such rumor. This is just another attempt by a Boise fan to get attention and now that they can't claim what world beaters they are this is the new method to keep threads alive with their team as the focal point.

The thing with a school like Boise is that they are going to go through periods like this more often than the "blue bloods" because of the type of recruits that they get.

They don't get the freshmen who are ready to contribute right away. They get the one's that have to be "coached up". Their players also tend to stay for their senior seasons. So they go through a couple of seasons like the last couple where they are relying on freshmen and sophomores, followed by seasons when they have a lot 4th and 5th year seniors!!

My guess is that in a season or 2, Boise will be back in the top 10!!

The "sourse" is the all the butt hurt, sky is falling, Bronco fans who will still be licking their wounds from the Montlake massacre for a very long time.

Honestly. If Peterson turned down Cal which was easily his dream job considering it's his hometown and they just spent several hundred mil renovating the stadium and brand new football operation center/training facilities, why would he go to USC?

USC is not his bag. Too much distraction and gaga built into the job. Coaches like Saban and Carroll can thrive in situations like that, not Peterson. Peterson would burn out faster than Meyer did at Florida trying to deal with USC and all that comes with that job.
