I have a question for those who watched the telecast from Winnipeg. Ron Maclean was interviewing Dale Hawerchuk during an intermission. There were some unruly fans behind them & Maclean asked them to calm down because they were getting to close to himself & Hawerchuk. He called Hawerchuk ROYALTY.

I know we put atheletes on a pedastal & I'm not singling out Hawerchuk here, but does anyone else think the comment was wrong. I don't care who the athelete or entertainer is he/she is not a god. They're a person just like the rest of us.

I don't know.. I think royalties are people just like us as well, they aren't gods either...

Very true. Granted I'd much rather meet Dale Hawerchuk than any member of the British or any other Royal family but, that's just me.

Do we as fans & the media take it too far? Atheletes make just as many mistakes as the rest of us. In quite a few cases they make more mistakes than the rest of us.

Meh. It's a euphemism. I think most folks know that Dale Hawerchuk is not descended from kings and queens. I would actually rate Hawerchuk higher than royalty (who are incidentally people too), as Dale at least did something to achieve his fame and fortune.

Personally, I might take offense to being called royalty. There are some royally ugly MFers out there.

Rather them be called royalty than warriors

Thank you. That bugs the shit out of me. They are not warriors or soldiers and they are not going to war or battle. They are adults playing a game for a living.

It's not going to be a war out there on Sunday. It's going to be a football game. I can't remember the last time a third and long wasn't picked up because the QB was picked off by a sniper and the receiver steped on a landmine.

Pat Tillman was a warrior
Kellen Winslow is not (reference his postgame rant in Miami)

1986 Super Bowl. Tony Eason was the QB.

Follow the bloodlines people. He is ninth in line for the throne of Belgium.

Okay, that sounds like something I would have (or should have) come up with in a prediction.

I watched Steve Yzerman pick himself up off the ice during the playoffs, using his stick as a crutch, after every whistle. Once the puck was dropped again, you couldn't hardly tell he was injured. That man is a fucking warrior.

Mikko Koivu gets the warrior tag. He fulfilled his Finnish military obligations over the summer.

Was the other team shooting at him? Seems dangerous and excessive if so. Possibly illegal.

Yup. The other team tried to hurt him in the process. He was such a warrior that the biggest badass around got hurt himself, just by trying to hurt Stevie in the first place.:kk:
