Last week of golf for me until after summer, damn rain is keeping me off the course.

The great news is that yesterday I walked the course without leg pain for the first time this summer.

Whacky round. I only hit 4 fairways and 3 greens but fired a 78. My scrambling and putting were sensational.

They're airating our greens today.....oh well, gotta do it.

Played the Dream with my two "shit, another damn par" buddies on Sunday... played the Nightmare yesterday and today... am frazzled. Had perfect weather (light breeze, partly sunny, 70s)... nobody ahead nobody pushing all three rounds... saw turkeys, deer and the squawky horny-as-hell peacock that chases visiting geesettes. Fairways were absurdly wide (didn't matter, balls were still going OB right and left) and exquisitely groomed; lots of sand and water, huge greens were painted cement... many three putts... much anger and swearing. The boys bitched about their "abysmal" low 80s scores - I was perfectly happy breaking 100 (94, 96 and 91).

SA.01.JUN... Hit from the blues today... 6,560 yards... 40/38 on 72 par... just a couple of 3-putts; no swimmers or lost balls... hit every fairway...
still, for so early in the season, all that tedious practice all winter seems to be paying off.

SU.09.JUN... same course... played the yellows (with three duffers almost as old as I am)... 5,380 yards... 46/45 on 72 par... several many 3-putts, 2 splashes, hit every beach in sight... oh yeah, all that winter practice sure is paying off. A real WTF round.

TU.11.JUN... Richmond Forest GC... 6,700 yard (blues) rural gem in pristine condition - owned and maintained by a 700-acre nursery... played the 6,100 yard white tees... hit a -mostly- satisfying 45/41... had disastrous double plunk on #3 (splashed the drive then splashed the drop)

working on this for FR.28.JUN > WE.03.JUL:

lol...
Capac, MI; Michigan thumb area... burgeoning rustic metro of almost 2,000 souls, lying halfway between Shitsburg and Grinsville... but features

HOLLY MEADOWS GC (usually a goat ranch of last resort - but the bar girl is amazing) just out of town... the 6,000yd run is in the best condition ever... just incredible... likely due to all the rain we've gotten and sparse patronage.
I'm playing my long irons (175>205) a lot more these days - mostly to complement my inability to hit a decent 4 wood.

and... there will be at least 20 duffs (four H2S brothers, friends and family) participating in the 2024 Chilkoot Open, Keystone, CO in late August. We'll be playing both the Ranch and River Courses. I'm excited about the Ranch run - was designed by RTJ jr. Last year's inaugural Open was held at Pinehurst, NC.

is a mostly unused large public park nearby whose soccer/rugby fields -which are never used- measure roughly 200yd by 175yd and are kept mowed (in parallel lines) at a perfect 2"... it's all mine whenever I want to hit and chase anything... v'been working on my alignment with the parallel lines and it seems to be working...

shot a 40/39 today with the "another damn par" crowd... got more than my share of compliments for hitting the ball straight (truth, I was as surprised as they were)... it was awesome - aim at something and the ball goes right at it... dang. Being satisfied on the course is such a rarity, and never repeated... tomorrow I'm sure to be swearing up a storm.

Pine Needles last Friday. 39-42-81 w/ 37 putts. Hit the ball really well and but a couple of awful 6 irons on the last couple of holes cost me a sub-80 round.

Charlotte Country Club today. 40-41-81 w/ 40 putts. Including rolling in a 40' birdie on 17. Greens ate me alive. Honestly, having a caddy read putts really messes with my mojo and confidence. So that's my excuse for being absolutely awful on the greens.

Caddies make sense...
sometimes.

today shot 43/42 with 34 putts, including 3-putting 4 holes... course was in fabulous shape, thick bent grass fairways, tight true greens (no caddy needed)... one swimmer, hit every fairway that mattered... I'm pretty much satisfied with my drives, wedges and putter but am still having trouble making friends with my long irons (may need outside help for that 175-230yd second shot to the green.)

no... only woods I have are driver and three. I'm fairly confident with the 3 @ 215yds from a sweet lush lie... mostly though, I go with the 4 or 5 iron... with mostly disappointing results (frustrating after practicing my ass off with those two clubs, dammit.)
just spent 30 minutes googling seven woods... thank you... will definitely try a couple out.

My swing speed would mean I would balloon the shit out of a 7. But I know a lot of people that swear by them. And they’re starting to show up in a ton of PGA and LPGA bags.

hit a dozen balls with a Ping G430 Seven Wood demo today... spooky... all 12 flew straight as an arrow 175-215 yds... bought it on the spot. Got it just in time too, as we've just finalized next week's schedule...

46/45 this morning.. I putted like crap. 1 par 2 doubles and the rest bogeys. I think i have my driver straightened out though. I piped the last 5 or 6. My cousin finally started making good contact so I don't have to worry about him bailing on me anymore. It really wasn't that bad for me .. I'm reasonably satisfied when I break 90 and didn't miss by much.

Sundance @ A-Ga-Ming Resort is a classic links run... dunes, virtually treeless, lots of sand and sawgrass... wonderful track. 44/43 whites.
Legend @ Shanty Creek is just plain bad-to-the-bone you're dead if you're not paying attention... deadly beautiful stuff. 47/44 silver/whites.
Cedar River @ Shanty Creek is the best golf course (bar none) I have ever played. Incredible, just fucking incredible. 43/40 silver/whites.
Hawk's Eye @ Shanty Creek allows no mercy whatsoever... I thought I'd do better this year... haha. maybe next year. 45/46 silver/whites.

Boys and Girls, this region of northern Michigan is Grade-A golf destination...
courses are lush, manicured to carpet perfection, greens are tight but true...
imo, the game can't get any better than this:

Cedar Creek...
and there are another 25 or so championship courses (mostly public) within 60 miles of Shanty Creek.

Getting lots of aces, eagles and birdies as of late. That will change when i can't start on the greens and have to hit off the tee box.

Shot a 50 over 9 holes, extremely disappointed. Hopefully it's all uphill from here.

'those people' are saying we're playing tomorrow...
still waiting to hear what reservoir, flood plain, lake, pond, river course is allowing old men and their carts out...
hoping it's "Drowned Acres GC" in Watersmeet.
