I realize some players and coaches are dumb, but even the morons should be able to figure out when there are 2 minutes remaining.

To me it's about making the ending more interesting by giving the trailing team more of a chance. They could toy with other ideas as well, such as letting 1st half timeouts carry over to the second half, or the clock stopping if no positive yardage is gained on a play.

Not if you're on D and trying to get the ball back. That's actually a rule I would get rid of. Why does the clock have to stop momentarily in college, but not in the NFL?
