Nos, i ranked your teams 7, and 8... and that was because i hated your offenses... Thought they were both weak as hell...

I really want to know what i am missing...

I just don't see how they are weak? But I get the feeling there is no convincing you being you were the only one who voted his teams #1 and #2

I will tell you this, when i look at offense i care most about the front 5 of the order... after all that is where 80% of a teams offense comes from, and i don't think it matters that this is a team of All star level players, there are still clear front of the lineup people... Also, i don't care how good someone's 3-4-5 is if there 1-2 have trouble getting on base... Your 1-2 had a very low OBP...

if your 6-9 was so good then you should be able to make a better 1-5, that is at least the way i see it...

Because i picked your team as the 10, and assumed the only one who would pick your team as the one would be you...
That's hysterical. I'm not the only one who voted my team 1 or 2, 2 others did. And Nos can verify I vote myself #1 sometimes, and sometimes 2,3,4 and 5. I'd like to hear how many times you voted yourself 5th or against yourself in a playoff game

this is only my third draft, and the first 2 i didn't even send in my rankings(but i was shocked that i lost in the first rounds)... as you can see from my previous post, you can see partially how i rank offenses... teams that don't maximize their best player's potential, i will penalize them...

Davey Lopes .349 OBP
Tony Gwynn .388 OBP

On my other team Maury Wills does have a .330 OBP but the guy won an MVP, had more than 2,000 hits and stole over 100 bases one year. You realize how small the difference is between a .345 OBP and .375? 20 hits/walks or hit by pitch in 615 at bats. My 1&2 hitters will do just fine...

I will agree that Tony Gwynn is one of the best #2 hitters of all time... But still Low on Lopes and Maury Wills...
Lopes only had 100 or more runs scored twice in his career and in a 162 game average of only 91... Now I know, that Runs is a team stat, but the great lead off batters all score runs... That is just what they do... Lopes doesn't... Wills also had only 2 seasons of 100 or more runs, and has a 162 average of 89... We can not just base his entire value on their best seasons, if they seem to be more of an outlier...

You should have stopped right there, if Lopes had Gwynn and DiMaggio batting behind him I think those numbers would be a bit higher. Lopes stolen base % was pretty good as well, 557 steals 114 CS

my point was that runs is not entirely a team stat... It is not a coincidence that players with higher OBPs score more runs and it is not a coincidence that the better lead of men all score over 100 runs a season...

I must apologize I didn't realize the leadoff hitters were what we were using to decide the winner, good job taking Morgan and Rickey, guess you win... On to the next draft...

Never said that it was... And I hate the fact that this sounds like I am bitching... I really am not.... I just want to see what I am missing... I am asking for an explanation, not to be a dick, but because I really don't see how some of you guys judge... It seems to me like you base it solely on a players prime but only when it suits you guys...

also seems to me like you guys romanticize some players...

It seems to me that you are one of those my opinion is right and yours is wrong guys, I don't understand your way of voting.

Explain to me how a team with this lineup is the best team?

1.2B - Joe Morgan(L) - 1963 - HOF
2.CF - Brett Butler (L)- 1981
3.LF - Bob Johnson(R) - 1933
4. 3B - Eddie Mathews - 1952 (L)- HOF
5. LF - Charlie Keller(L) - 1939
6. RF - Bobby Bonds(R) - 1968
7. 1B - Norm Cash(L) - 1958
8. C - Jim Sundberg (R)- 1974
9. SS - Lyn Lary(R) - 1929

I will admit I am stubborn, but that doesn't mean I cant eventually see the other side... But I will need the other side explained to me before I can ever change my opinion...
First off, I never said it was the best lineup, But I think the rotation and Bullpen makes this the best team...

as for the offense, I will only include the stats that I think are worthwhile at the spot they are hitting

1. Joe Morgan(career OBP .392, SB 689) had 9 seasons of .400 OBP or better
2. Brett Butler(career OBP .377, SB 558, 162 average SO of 66) 7 seasons of an OBP better than .377(his average) and grounds into 5 double plays a season.
3. Bob Johnson(.296 BA, .393 OBP,.899 OPS) 162 game average HR of 25 and 112 RBIs,
4. Eddie Mathews( BA .271, OBP.376,.885 OPS) 162 game average of 35 HRs and 98 RBIs
5. Charlie Keller (BA .286, OBP .410, OPS .928) 162 game average of 26 HRs and 105 RBIs
6. Bobby Bonds( BA .268, OBP .353, OPS .824) 162 game average 29 HRs 90 RBIs, 40 SBs
7. Norm Cash ( BA .271, OBP .374, OPS .862) 162 game average 29 HRs 86 RBIs
8. Jim Sundberg( BA .248, OBP .327) Arguably the best defensive Catcher of all time
9. Lyn Lary ( BA .269, OBP .369) 162 game average of 20 SBs...

As you can see, everyone except for Jim Sundberg has an OBP of .353 or higher...
Lots of speed at top, and over 25 HR average from everyone from 3-7...
