MLBTR reporting:

C.C. Sabathia thinks Phillies shortstop Jimmy Rollins may sign with the Giants in the offseason, reports Jon Heyman from Sports Illustrated (Twitter link). Sabathia and Rollins are long-time friends and, as Heyman notes, Rollins was the first to predict that Sabathia would sign with the Yankees in the 2008-09 offseason.

He's a 2-3 WAR guy...2/16?

Building on this theme:

1. Players under contract(salary, in millions): Zito (19), Rowand** (13.6), Huff (10), Cain (15.3), Wilson (8.5), Freddy (6), Affeldt** (0.5 buyout), Bum (0.5), Runzler (0.5), Belt (0.5), Crawford (0.4), Pill (0.4). Total: 75.2
2. Players arb eligible with best guess salary: Lincecum (18), JSanchez (5), Lopez (4), Keppinger (3.5), Torres (3), Ramirez (2.5), Casilla (2.5), Vogelsong (4), Sandoval (5), Romo (1.5), Nate (1), Stewy (0.5). Total: 50.5

That's 23 players and $125.7MM estimated payroll. Add in Rollins (8) and a minor leaguer (0.5) and we're at $134MM. I'd estimate we'd need to trim 8-10MM.

Best guess: Trade Chez, insert Kamp (4.5 savings), let Kepp walk, keep Fonty (2MM savings).

SS Rollins
2B Freddy
C Posey
3B Panda
1B Huff
RF Nate
LF Belt
CF Torres

SP: Tim, Cain, Bum, Song, Kamp
RP: Weez, Romo, Casilla, Ramirez, Lopez, Runzler, Zito
Bench: Pill, Fonty, Craw, Stewy, Cristian

Thoughts?

That wouldn't be a bad deal. Rollins looks like he's got at least a couple years left in him. I wouldn't mind having him until Crawford learns how to hit or Panik is ready. Is Panik being groomed for SS or 2B?

I like that team. I have a soft spot for Torres and hope that the Giants keep him and that he turns it around next season. I like the idea of keeping Crawford in the big league roster. His defense is very valuable. If he could develop the hitting a little bit, he can be a starter. And, I look forward to seeing more of what Pill and Belt can do.

You're assuming that the second best SS on the market is going to settle for 2/16...

Once Reyes is gone, he's it, and it's a sharp decline to the next best option at Scutaro/Carroll/Furcal.

Its going to take at least 3 guaranteed years, and possibly 4. He has all the leverage in the situation, while we have none.

Well we lost 2/3 to Dodgers and 1st game of DBacks series. Can pretty much say season over.Would like to see all of these guys gone and begin the youth movement to the farm.

Carlos Beltran-6,000,000
Cody Ross-6,300,000
Mark Derosa-6,000,000
Andres Torres-2,200,000
Pat Burrell- 1,000,000
Mike Fontenot- 1,050,000
Miguel Tejada- 7,000,000
Orlando Cabrera- 1,000,000
Guillermo Mota- 925,000
Jeremy Affeldt- 4,500,000

Maybe we could sell Huff,Zito and Sanchez to the yanks with some cash and another pitching prospect

A lineup that I would like to see is
C-Posey,Sanchez
1B-Pill,Belt,Huff
2B-Sanchez,Adrianza?
SS-Crawford,Adrianza
3b-Sandoval,Dominguez,Gillaspie
LF-Belt,Peguero
CF-Brown,Peguero
RF-Schierholtz

My batting order

CF-Brown
RF-Schierholtz

If Adrianza hits AA well next season he'll probably get a sept. call up.

As is, I'm going to remain on the conservative side of things concerning his development. If he can hit the oh so elusive .250, then he would be a starting SS in the MLB. He's even more of a vacuum than Crawford, and is faster.

I might be OK with Burrell, Font, and DeRosa with $1 million each. They really aren't retarding the progress of MLB ready guys in the minors. DeRosa is suspect with his injury issues, but seems to be a good team guy, as does Burrell. (Wonder how much Burrell being away on the DL hurt Huff this season.)

I don't think Adrianza is MLB ready with the bat, but he may be close.

I'd love to see the Giants fast track Panik, much like the Mariners did Ackley. They are about the same age and the same size, and Panik had better numbers than Ackley to begin his minor league career. Could Panik be fast tracked to San Jose and Richmond next season, with a cup of Joe at Fresno?

I think Brown is close to MLB ready, see how he does in Richmond first. Guy has amazing wheels. Not much plate patience though (46 walks in 638 AB's), but more than most Giants currently on the team.

We'd also have to see about Franchez' health, and perhaps sign Kepp to a two-year deal. I like Kepp's bat, but his defense is suspect. He'd be an expensive backup, but if Franchez goes down again, we need a 2B. (Hey, let's get Matt Downs back!)

Dude, you're trying (strong emphasis on the word trying) to compare a number 2 overall pick with +++++++++++++talent, who started at AA. To a guy with one plus tool (his bat), and who started in rookie league. Talk about trying to paint a rosy picture....

As for Brown, I think you're just as jaded. Crawford killed A ball, but shit the bed in AA. Brown could do the exact same thing. To say he is almost MLB ready because of 1 year in the low minors is retarded. Remember that guy named Thomas Neal? And how he was our power hitting LF of the future after A ball? I can do this all day.

They don't make comedies like they used to. Late 70's / Early 80's was the golden age...

Yes and no. That era had some all time greats (Caddyshack, Animal House, Stripes, etc) but more recently I'd put up Anchorman, Dumb & Dumber, Zoolander, Half Baked and others on the same level.

Gotta love Anchorman.

"I'm proud of you fellas. You all kept your head on a swivel, and that's what you gotta do when you find yourself in a vicious cock fight."

"People call me the Bry man; I'm the stylish one of the group. I know what you're asking yourself and the answer is yes. I have a nick name for my penis. Its called the Octagon, but I also nick named my testes - my left one is James Westfall and my right one is Doctor Keneth Noisewater. You ladies play your cards right you just might get to meet the whole gang."

I am sorry, I would put Stripes, Caddyshack, Animal House, Holy Grail, Fast Times, Slapshot, etc against ANY group of movies from the last 20 years.

Some from the last 20 years (or so) that MAY be able to hold their own...

Hangover
Austin Powers
... (I am sure I am missing a few good ones, but there really are not many)

I am not a huge Will Farrell fan, even though Anchorman was decent. Ben Stiller is just painful.

No need to apologize, you're just wrong :)

Holy Grail was 1973, wrong era. But as good as any of them for sure.
Fast Times is really dated, only Spicolli and Phoebe Cates' boobs are worth re-viewing.
Good call on Hangover.

A very good list. Not all of these are = Caddyshack, but most are in the conversation. I guess my point was, you can't really say all the funny stopped in 1985.

Although Caddyshack is my favorite all-time funny movie, I have to disagree with you Cal. I'm of the mind that movies are a lot like baseball players.....it's hard to (read: almost impossible) make an apples to apples comparison of different eras. Senses of humor do change over time.

In my humble opinion of course.

To be technical, my list ranged from 1975 (Holy Grail) to 1982 (Fast Times); a range of 7 years.

Your list ranged from 1994 (Half Baked) to 2004 (Anchorman); a range of 10 years.

I was closer to a single era than you.
