Up until last season Rodgers has had weapons to move the ball and score points. Their problem was they couldn't put together a top defense to match the offense.
part of the reason is because he kept forcing them, to redo his contract for more money instead of letting it play out. Not only kicking the can down the road, but also spending now money on him.

True and that falls on the FO for allowing his ego to dictate what they should do.

They also tried to be a running team with Rodgers completing 3rd downs. The defense kept them from really doing it all game, but it was a philosophical failure when you have a HoF quarterback.

In 2020 and 2021 the defense was top 10 in yards when they had #1 overall seed both years... problem is special teams was #30 or higher. Lost to SF in players on blocked punt... very fitting for #32 ranked special teams.

Rodgers would play for zero dollars if he could get a chance to prove how stupid the Packers have been for the last 5 years with trying to replace him, trying to force the run, and not grabbing one of the 15-20 young pass catchers that came into the league during that time frame to upgrade the passing game.

Just my opinion, but think he's looking forward to proving the Packers wrong just like Brady did to the Patriots. That's why he's asking for enough receivers that they don't run out. Brady went to Evans/Godwin and an all out air attack in an Arians offense.

They had a top 5 pass catcher, but they couldn't afford to keep him because of Rodgers' bloated contract. For a guy who says that his entire focus is winning, he sure does seem to like money a lot.

The Kirk Cousins route of making as much money as possible and not give up one penny. Good for him, if that's what he can do, go for it. But don't lie and say you're about winning and only winning first when you are taking up that much of the cap.

I don't entirely disagree but Rodgers got the ball back late, at home and big game, basically a death sentence if it's Brady, GB went 3 and out including on third down Rodgers ignoring lazard who was open to force it to triple teamed Adams.

Rodgers is mostly a modern day Dan Marino

GB trying to take pressure off Rodgers wasn't the issue.

But maybe drafting back up QB and back up RB with their first two picks after nfccg appearance wasn't best idea

Yeah, Hufanga's blocked punt was huge but only because the offense was terrible. Niners have a great defense but Geno Smith put up more points than Rodgers did. Nothing but a FG after the first quarter. The Packers D played good enough that even 1 TD after the opening drive one and they win that game despite the blocked punt. It was basically the same stuff that everybody hated about McCarthy. Score early but do nothing in the second half. 2014 CG comes to mind. It seems ever since AR started winning MVPs, he has not been clutch in the playoffs or late in games for the most part.

Exactly... Rodgers never did the Packers any favors if he wanted to win championships. There is a salary cap the Packers had to manage and Rodgers when he got his new contracts always took as big a bite as he could.

Is Love in his last year of his rookie contract?

I was answering question regarding Packers defense. Generally the defense was middle/bottom half of the league.

Exceptions were 2010 (Super Bowl), 2014, 2020 and 2021... 3 of those years they made it to NFCC game. Rodgers did not play so well in the 2014 and 2021 games with the playoff losses. In 2014, if offense would have punch some of the balls in the end zone vs FGs most likely Seahawks unable to work their miracle in last 4 minutes to win game.

I agree 100% Rodgers does not have the mental steel that Brady has... Rodgers has had some memorable late game wins, but he is tied for #28 on all time list for 4th quarter comebacks... behind the likes of Andy Dalton, Carson Palmer, Jay Cutler, tied with Kerry Collins and well behind Matt Ryan. For a HOF QB playing as long as he has, that seems very low in comparison to some of the other HOF QBs that played when he did (Brady, Manning, Big Ben, Brees all well above Rodgers 21).

Rodgers can get dialed in on players (he likes) and miss some very open targets as you noted.

4th year this year... Packers are expected to pick up the 5th year option on May 1st.
I guess the Packers know something about Love that the rest of us don't. Darnold and Mayfield receiving 5th year options were mistakes and both of those players had shown more before their 4th seasons. I think the Packers would be better off taking the Giants/Dan Jones route of franchise tagging him then negotiating if he does prove to be a top QB. The 5th year option for Love would be a guaranteed $20.272M.

Packers know more than anyone else speculating what they have in Love, but I doubt the Packers even fully know. The 5th year option could be another mistake by Packers front office in a line of recent mistakes at QB position.

If Rodgers does move on as expected.... Love will get 2024 and 2025 to prove himself.

If Love does not work out, I would bet large sums of money Gutey is out as their GM, he was GM for drafting Love, Rodgers latest big contract and 5th year option for Love.... 3 big strikes at most important position.

Time will tell.
