Well, as long as the Packers are losingnot only to ride the pine, but to watch the packers lose also!

Sure. That's an option.Pack gonna pay 58 million dollars for a guy to ride the pine??
Wait, his salary drops to 15 million after 6/1?
That's the dead cap hit for next year for the Packers if the trade takes place after 6/1.Wait, his salary drops to 15 million after 6/1?
Right, so it's correct to say that the Packers aren't likely to pay him 58 million dollars to sit on the bench behind Love. We weren't talking about Cap hits originallyThat's the dead cap hit for next year for the Packers if the trade takes place after 6/1.
I can't see them doing that, they wouldn't be able to field a team worth a shit. This is a strange negotiation in that neither team has leverage. The Jets need the Rodgers and the Pack needs to get rid of him.Right, so it's correct to say that the Packers aren't likely to pay him 58 million dollars to sit on the bench behind Love. I mean, I'll chip in five bucks...I can't see them doing that, they wouldn't be able to field a team worth a shit. This is a strange negotiation in that neither team has leverage. The Jets need the Rodgers and the Pack needs to get rid of him.
It's going to happen, each side is posturing for a better deal and that will end 6/2. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2nd rounder the Jets just got in the Moore trade is what goes to the Pack with maybe a 4th and a conditional pick in the draft after thatI mean, I'll chip in five bucks...
Yeah, I just read about the Moore trade. It's going to happen, each side is posturing for a better deal and that will end 6/2. I wouldn't be surprised if the 2nd rounder the Jets just got in the Moore trade is what goes to the Pack with maybe a 4th and a conditional pick in the draft after that
not sure where the 58 mil comes from but only number that matters is the cap hit Teams have plenty of moneyRight, so it's correct to say that the Packers aren't likely to pay him 58 million dollars to sit on the bench behind Love. We weren't talking about Cap hits originally

cap hit if he goes nowhere is 31 mil

The Packers are pretending they have leverage which means they don't actually have it.I can't see them doing that, they wouldn't be able to field a team worth a shit. This is a strange negotiation in that neither team has leverage. The Jets need the Rodgers and the Pack needs to get rid of him.
I would laugh if Packers playing Hardball & at some point the Jets say well too late & move on with something else. Then Rodgers who I believe without a doubt never plays for the packers again. Says well fuck you guys I am retiring & suddenly the packers have a 99 mil dead cap on their hands LOLRodgers is due $60M this year, of which $58.3M is an option bonus. The option bonus counts as salary until it is paid. Once it is paid it counts as a signing bonus which is accounted for pro-rata over the 4 remaining years of Rodgers' contract. The Packers are accounting for 25% of the option, ($14.5M), and they are $24M under the cap limit. If they had to account for it as salary they would be $20M over the current cap limit. Once an option is activated it can't be reversed and the Packers would be responsible for 25% of it this year with 75% of it counting against the Packers in the future. It Rodgers is traded prior to the June 1 date then all money due to count towards the Packers cap total in future years would accelerate into the 2023 cap. With the option bonus the total dead money figure is $68M and the Packers would be $44M over the current cap. Under the cap rules the Packers can't trade Rodgers before the June 1 date and be under the limit. If they trade him Post June 1 the remaining $68M dead money will count against the team in 2024. They would have to gut the team to create that much space. What the Packers are trying to do is have the Jets retro-actively take responsibility for the whole $58.3M option and not have the rules, (and the consequences for breaking them), apply to the Packers.
If he retired Rodgers wouldn't get $60M this year and the Packers wouldn't be on the hook for it. The future $24M dead money would accelerate into 2023 but the Packers wouldn't be accounting for the $16M money in 2024 that they currently are. Rodgers retiring would worsen the Packers 2023 cap by $8M and everything would then be clear. Rodgers retiring isn't a problem and playing for the Packers is only a small problem, (depending on personal perspective). Trading him is the problem. It's a problem because of the way his contract was structured.I would laugh if Packers playing Hardball & at some point the Jets say well too late & move on with something else. Then Rodgers who I believe without a doubt never plays for the packers again. Says well fuck you guys I am retiring & suddenly the packers have a 99 mil dead cap on their hands LOL
I can see the fuck you part, but I also see zero chance of Rodgers walking away from $60mil. Yeah, he's already rich, but $60mil is a lot of $$$ to leave on the table just for principle's sake.I would laugh if Packers playing Hardball & at some point the Jets say well too late & move on with something else. Then Rodgers who I believe without a doubt never plays for the packers again. Says well fuck you guys I am retiring & suddenly the packers have a 99 mil dead cap on their hands LOL
