Just thinking about this, but didn't Cano come into camp 20 lbs lighter because he said in NY he would add weight before start of season because he would lose 20 the first month because of the heat and that didn't happen last year for him in Seattle.

He looks weak with his swing. Just no pop.

I was thinking the same thing. No pop at all! The ball definitely isn't jumping off his bat right now.

So weird with Cano.... Cruz is taking a TON of pressure off Cano and we were supposed to be a contender this year... Felix is the face of the franchise, if anything Cano should be KILLING it this year.

Yeah when we added Cruz I was thinking the lineup just got much better especially because it makes Cano better too. Hasn't been the case so far this season. Cruz is carrying the load.

Add completing a double play with the game on the line to his struggles

Yeah that was a head scratcher... almost as bad as walking off third base when the other team loads the bases via walk..... 200 mill doesn't get you as much as it use to

He has a hard time laying off of pitches that bounce 3 inches away from his back foot.

I remember somebody a couple of weeks ago defending it for reasons passing understanding.

It was not me, but he used to hit pitches outside the zone very effectively. Now he's not.

Let's get one thing straight about Cano... he was never going to be able to live up to his contract to everybody's satisfaction. That's just what comes with signing a guy of any age to a deal that long and that expensive. It lends itself to ridiculously high expectations. That being said, I know he's been struggling so far this year, but after the season he had last year I thought he'd get more than six weeks of slack before people started talking about him slowing down.

That can be said in year 9 or 8 or maybe even in year 7 of the deal, but year 2? No excusing it right now. He stinks and he needs to pull out of it. If he doesn't, M's go down for many years to come (which isn't as drastic if said about some franchises since M's haven't been there in over a decade anyway).

A few remarks,

I don't think we expected him to hit like Miguel Cabrera until he was 40, but this regression has been seriously concerning. He went from a guy who averaged 29 HRs a year in his previous 5 years, to hitting 15 in 202 games with the Mariners. I'm okay overpaying for Cano's performance last year, he was arguably the best 2B in baseball, but right now he's playing at a replacement level at best.

.300-.320 average with 10-15 HRs and good defense for 6 or 7 years with a drop off afterwards I could've lived with.

One good season then suddenly tanking? That's really difficult to stomach.

The frustrating thing is he is a good enough hitter to adjust, but hasn't. His problem is that he is swinging at too many pitches out of the zone, before he used to be able to do something with those balls, now he isn't. If he was more patient at the plate he would be hitting a lot better right now.

That and lack of power on his swings. Not talking homers, but just the ball reacting off his bat. Not much there.

Another thought on Cano that I had, and hopefully I or someone else didn't already bring this up, but what the broken toe he had in the Japan Series in the off season? Maybe it is a bigger deal than originally thought. If he can't push off on it like before or if it changes his stance even slightly, maybe that has zapped his power and/or caused him to swing more with his hands like he does especially when chasing pitches out of the zone.

Who freaking knows.

He's pressing too hard... He's obviously feeling the pressure and heat, which is why he continues to swing at pitches he normally wouldn't be swinging at... It would probably do him some good if he got an injury that put him on the 15 day DL to give him some time off to think and ease his mind.. .
