First of all it is Cleveland.

Second $12 million for 2 QBs is less than most teams are paying for one QB. The smart move is to have a plan A and B.

From what I read Wentz is pretty athletic and could run an offense with a mobile QB. I don't think the Browns are going to run Griffin a lot. The kid is too brittle.

Bullshit Shark. Cle will still take QB at #2. RG3 is just the stop gap for the rookie QB. I wouldn't be surprised if the rookie QB beat out RG3 in training camp. NO curveballs thrown.

So let me ask you seriously Dean. How do the Browns manage RG3 and Wentz at the same time if you really think they would try and make this move?? We all agree Griffin is not a plug and play starter. So he will require some work in order to hand a team over to him. Wentz is a rookie, so he will also require work. This isnt a situation like Green Bay had, where Favre could be pretty much left to his own devices and coaches had the luxury of giving extended time to Rogers. This would be a situation where you have TWO QBs both needing a far amount of work, and only limited time and resources to dedicate to both. If the plan was simply to feed some one to the wolves, Griffin was a poor choice as he has shown a propensity to throw people under the bus if he feels mistreated. If they were not seriously at least considering going in a direction other than Wentz or Goff in the draft, they already HAD a decent stop gap on roster who comes with alot less potential drama than having Griffin around.

This is why the Rg3 move didn't make sense to me. They had a stop gap in McCown. They could draft Wentz or Goff and let him learn behind Mcown for 1 or 2 years. They had the perfect situation setup then they just blew it by paying for RG3. Reports say that the Browns can get out of the deal next year but why do it? Its the Browns.

Lets say they don't draft a QB like you said Shark. Jackson is going all in on RG3? That is crazy. I heard they want to trade McCown now. He would be a good fit for the Jets or Denver. I still think they go QB. I had enough talking about the Browns. I am glad im not a fan of them.

According to Mike Klis of 9 News Denver, the Broncos considered Robert Griffin III but chose not to seriously pursue him because of character concerns.

Griffin III would have jumped at the opportunity to play for the team he grew up rooting for. GM John Elway made a few phone calls about RG3 but ultimately decided he wasn't a good fit. Griffin III's highly publicized fallout with former coach Mike Shanahan made Elway's decision that much easier. The Broncos are still hoping to land Colin Kaepernick in a trade, but until that happens, Mark Sanchez will sit atop Denver's quarterback depth chart.

You gotta love this im so happy we got rid of this diva. Nobody wanted this guy but Cle guarantees him 7 mil. lol I just feel bad for Cle fans. They get no relief.

Thats the thing, I have not said they wont draft a QB at all. I just dont think they are going to draft on in the top five of the draft. Or in the first round. I think they made this move so that they can concentrate on getting either one of the defensive studs at #2 in the draft, or trade down. I figure they will take a QB in either the 2nd or 3rd round. Griffin will be the unquestioned starter going into 2016, and they will build from there. But this plan goes straight to hell if they draft a QB at #2 and have the rookie and Griffin compete for the starting job. Look how divided our fan base got when Gruden even mentioned a competition for the starting QB spot. They signed him to start on a prove it deal. But I dont think even the Browns are that dumb to go all in on Griffin.

Picking up RG3 makes perfect sense because Goff and Wentz don't make sense at #2. Now you're icky becomes trade bait for an idiot franchise like PHI. If you have to pick number two, there are a number of other positions to choose from...perhaps OL where you had huge loss in FA. Maybe you take a defensive beast. RG3 is worth a risk if you are Cleveland because all he costs is a year. They also don't lose out on the compensatory picks by picking him up because we picked up that fifth year option...not sure how that works exactly but I read it.

NFL Network's Albert Breer reports the Browns haven't promised Robert Griffin III anything in regards to playing time.

Breer confirmed Cleveland is still likely to select either Carson Wentz or Jared Goff with the No. 2 overall pick, which means Griffin III will have to beat one of them for the starting job. The Browns are going to collect as many quarterbacks as possible and see what sticks. While RG3's large salary would suggest a major role, his performance at OTAs and training camp will determine that. Breer noted Griffin hasn't always meshed with demanding coaches and Hue Jackson certainly fits that criteria. RG3 will obviously be one of the big stories to watch this offseason but it's anyone's guess if he'll be relevant in fantasy.

How that works....

Normally the Browns would be eligible for Comp picks in 2017 based on guys they lost.

Mack, Schwartz, Robertson and Benjamin should all net them comp picks in the 3-7 round range. Signing Griffin normally would have balanced off a comp pick they would be eligible for. So instead of 4 possible Comp picks, normally they would have dropped to three based on losses and gains.

Because we had originally picked up his option, there is apparently some rule that if he is cut, and signs else where, he doesnt count in the Comp picks formula. If I had to guess now, they will end up with 4 comp picks in 2017 based on losses and gains.

I read that too...just doesn't make sense. A guy cut is a guy cut. A guy picked up in FA is a guy picked up. Well...then again...I also believe if it has a penis, it is a dude...if it has a vagina, it is a girl.

Well that settles it. Reporters are always right.

yeah...what exactly makes Albert Breer the end all word on this? The Browns probably don't even know what they're going to do yet but Breer knows they're going to select a QB at #2?

Thats also a part of the formula though. Players cut do not count into the add/remove formula. Technically we could have retained RG3. Which is why WE wont get a comp pick for him going to the Browns. And because they technically didnt sign him away from us he doesnt count as a player signed away from another team. In the same token, DAllas could sign Johnny Numbnutz to a 5 year $90 million dollar deal and the Browns would not be able to get a comp pick for him leaving... because they cut him.

Dallas got nothing for Demarcus Ware, because he was released for cap reasons. Cut players don't give the losing team credit.

And street free agents dont factor in when they figure out gains from free agency. The formula revolves around UNrestricted free agents that teams technically "lost" to another team or gained from another team even if they never really tried to retain their own.

Good news for the Skins, we might finally qualify for some comp picks next year depending on how guys like Robinson, Morris and maybe one or two others do.

OK...that makes a bit more sense. I thought it was a rookie contract rule which would be stupid.
