Just for the pain he caused this woman, what he took from her, there is no punishment suitable for the driver.

Never mind what he took from the rest of the people there, and all of us...

Monahan and Hayes weren't doing very well either.

It is so heartbreaking, multiple families devastated by the selfish and pre-meditated actions of someone who knew they shouldn't be behind the wheel of a vehicle. That's one of my biggest fears for my own daughters, there are people out there still willing to drive while under the influence and innocent lives can be snuffed out in an instant. Although I will miss watching Johnny on the ice, I feel so bad mainly for Johnny and Matthew's surviving widows and their families.

This is maddening...

Just over eight months into 2024, Saanich Police says officers have already caught more impaired drivers than in all of 2023.

In all of 2023, officers in Saanich caught 468 impaired drivers. With four months remaining in 2024, the police force has already caught 483 impaired drivers.

4 or 5 beers he told the cops. This prick deserves to die

Unless he drew that out over a 5-6 hour period, that blood alcohol level seems pretty low for 4 or 5 beers :noidea:

/Not that it matters, he was over the limit and made a terribly tragic decision.

It's the "His wife says he has a history of driving like a nut" part that made this inevitable more than anything.

Stop being maniacs with the giant death machines and less people will die. It's not that hard.

Congrats on your sobriety, my father (who I never knew) left my mother when I was 3, was an alcoholic who drank himself to death when I was 5 and he was 47 if I remember correctly.

It pisses me off to this day when my older siblings refer to him as my father

I remember as a kid coming downstairs in November of ‘73 and my mother crying at the dining room table and me asking what was wrong and her replying your dad died.

I think I said who and went on about my day lol

Sorry wasn’t trying to derail the Johnny hockey thread

I don't think it derails anything. I think that if Johnny and Matthews death can find one silver lining it is the awareness of the dangers of alcohol and driving. if it sparks positive and meaningful conversation then there is some good that can come of it
