Teddy Bridgewater has the same skinny legs and in his first game injured his ankle while no one even hit him. The thin lower leg makes both of them very susceptible to leg injuries.

High tops are nowhere near as restrictive as the leg brace he wore and he will adjust to this quickly. It might even make it easier to slide as he wont fear rolling the ankle as easy.

Um Bridgewater got tackled and his ankle rolled on

Sorry, you are clearly right. I saw the play again and it was the tackle. I thought he turned it before he even made his cut.

Now it does seem a little more than coincidental that these two qbs with very thin lower legs have both been sidelined with ankle injuries recently.

Look at this link to see some photos of who wore shoes with ankle support. Steve Young and Barry Sanders did ok as far as running. I think RG3 needs to look at some shoe options. There are some great shoes available that offer ankle support.

This is something that crossed my mind, once this injury took place. As a long-time baseball fan, I've seen many players wear high-tops or mid-cuts for ankle support. It's needed because you need that support for rounding bases. With that being said, RGIII could use that support, when he wants to go horizontal. Of course, he increasingly fast, when running vertically.

Yeah I was thinking about added support too after the injury, I don't think he'll have a choice especially early.

High top shoes won't provide the support he needs, the uppers are still made from soft leather and some padding. He'll need an NFL caliber tape job for that support. Most guys get their ankles taped for every game... don't believe RGIII does however. She should.

If he had high tops for the game he was injured, I don't think he would have had nearly the injury if at all. His feet are going in every direction when he is in the air. He certainly should tape the ankles too.

I know this was a typo...but it made me laugh.

And if Griff isn't using tape, I can only hope he does down the road.

Maybe they should actually workout on their legs a bit.

Actually his legs are pretty big especially the upper legs. I suppose that you could develop a bit more in the calf region but can't imagine that this would make much of a difference (and few QBs are built this way).

I think that the ankle injury was a bit of a fluke & could have happened to anyone (hasn't anyone on this board experienced similar playing basketball? I have seen this happen a lot). I believe that the bigger key is avoiding hits & working the offense correctly & this is mainly to avoid knee issues. There is also the luck factor in this whole thing & you can't do much about that. Time will tell & this team is due a few breaks (as in lucky - not injuries).

It is his lower leg that I am concerned about. Long lower leg and very thin. I'm sure he has some extra mobility in his joints and ligaments too. Bridgewater looks to have a similar build. If RG3 refuses to wear ankle support, I would insist that he implement a very strong lower leg work out and have that as part of his routine. When a guys is flying through the air, his feet should be in a solid angle with the rest of his leg. As part of his hyper mobility, they are all over the place. We are not like cats and can't get our legs around in a millisecond. I hope we hear he will consider this.

Fair enough but still believe that avoiding the hits & playing the position correctly is more important. He is just going to have to learn to step up in the pocket when needed. Otherwise - I think it is hopeless. Not saying that he can't scramble at times - just not so frequently. Tough to tell how this will pan out (for either RG3 or Cousins). We are certainly tested as Redskins fans!
