Lol.
If it makes you feel any better, I think the Giants will return to the top of the NL West next year, regardless. :D

I might be wrong, but i'm pretty sure part of that post 03 WS dump was due to the Marlins possibly having the worst stadium lease deal in all of sports.

With this new field comes a way better deal - meaning they can now have their cake and eat it too. The day of the Marlins selling off talent is come and gone. They're making a statement, and like I said before, are going to have a 9 figure payroll come next season.

All of that fun stuff aside, trading for Hanley would cripple this team one way or another. You trade Bum and we lose rotation stability and depth for the future. You trade our 2 tradeble blue chip talents and the farm is decimated and tied with the Brewers for worst in baseball.

They're spending all this money because they have to. The catch on them getting that brand new field paid for by the city, was they have to up their payroll to the mid-market team they actually are. Their payroll will probably rival ours after all is said and done, so the idea of them slashing payroll is a no go.

Again, they're not trading him. He fills a huge hole at 3B that they've had for awhile, and has already willingly conceded to the hot corner. The Marlins are going for broke and trying to make a super team with top teir FA to go with their already young and talented core - HanRam is the center of that core.

I haven't seen any indications of this, maybe someone can throw up a link? And the last I heard Hanley was opposed to the idea of moving positions though the Marlins said they had something "worked out".

While I agree 100% you can't give up MadBum for him, I'd be ok with losing Crawford (same position) and Belt (bat not needed if Hanley there) and a reliever for him. Not that the Marlins would take that.

I think this is another unlikely deal.

It would probably have to include Brown too and a lower level prospect.

Marlins have agreed to sign Jose Reyes today, 6 years $106 million. Hanley will supposedly move to CF or third base, but its been well documented that he is unwilling to move positions. There seems to be a problem brewing. Ramirez has already had issues with the Marlins before being accused of a lack of hustle, though talks never surfaced of a trade because he was the Marlins face of the franchise.

Now, they have Jose, and coupled with the bad year and ill-fated feelings between the 2 sides, I think now may be the likeliest time, if ever, he is to be traded. Giants just so happen to have a hole at SS...

Dude. If you're going to throw out things like this to premise your opinion, you have to document it.

I would have to think the Marlins would want more than just Crawford and Belt. Giants fans high hopes aside, Craw is a non prospect on most teams radars and has little to no trade value, except as a throw in.

The deal would probably be Madbum + Peguero or a B prospect along those lines, or Belt, Brown, and Hembree.

Of those, I think only the top gets it done, and that's cause Madison has #1 stuff. Is that really a trade worth making? Bum is our future ace in waiting, and cost controlled. While Hanley is fat, coming off a horrible year, and signed to a fairly expensive 6/70mil contract.

Hembree is a high upside arm, though. I'm not exactly sure on what type of arm the Marlins would want in terms of prospects, but I'm fairly certain they'd ask for Bumgarner in any sort of deal for Hanley involving the Giants. He fits the description of what the Marlins need in their rotation.

You mean "elite starter?"

I agree.

You're going to need to explain that one. I can't imagine that was a condition of financing, so that's a confusing claim.

The Park was/is being paid for by the city of Miami with tax dollars. There was no financing on the Marlins part. The deal, in really simple terms, was Miami telling the Marlins they would pay for a brand new facility, IF, the ownership agreed to up payroll and field a more competitive product - aka actually spend money on big names to draw the fans. Hence, why they're in on the two top tier Latin players, even though the positions they play were already manned by above average talents.

Look up anything on their new lease deal, somewhere in there it states that payroll has to be at a minimum of 70mil or something like that. Which makes sense. Why would the city spend half a billion dollars just so the Marlins could continue to be penny pinchers?

igning Reyes means current shortstop Hanley Ramirez will have to vacate the shortstop position, but ESPN reports that he has already agreed to the move.

The move means Ramirez, a three-time All Star, will probably be switched to third base. Ramirez said last week he would love to have Reyes, his close friend and fellow Dominican, on the team. But he didn't sound too happy about the prospect of changing positions.

"I'm a shortstop right now, so I don't know. I consider myself a shortstop," Ramirez said at a Marlins charity event last Thursday, repeating the line several times.

Conflicting reports, believe who you will.

I wasn't able to find anything specifying a minimum payroll. I did find this:

Marlins' new look, stadium not fooling anybody - MLB - Yahoo! Sports

which makes it pretty clear that South Floridians are getting fucked in the ass by this deal.
