I will admit that their are flaws in this. As others stated, how many linemen are returning? What kind of coaching changes were there? These are stats, as much as I LOVE stats, I know they don't tell the whole story but they do fill a few pages of the book.

I am in the process of another stat line but it is severely extensive and will literally take most of the summer to finish. I just hope I actually get it done before the season starts.

Are you serious?

Yes. Who was better? We averaged 44 PPG in B1G games. I'm pretty sure that is the best in conference history. Our QB put up the highest QB rating in NCAA History. Our RB tied the NCAA TD record and led the nation in rushing. We did all of this in a power-run, non-spread formation that is supposedly very conservative. Again, i'm curious which offense you think was better.

:L

possible losses for whiskey(with reasons for loss in parenthesis):

-Nebraska(i know you stated that above, but still its a possible loss)
-@Purdue (i know this one is a HUGE stretch but away games aint nuthin easy in the B1G)
-Michigan State(for some reason, they are a lot of people's pick to win the B1G this year, based on that, this is a possible loss.)
-Ohio State(Urban Meyer. that is all)
@Penn State(......@Penn State)

Call me crazy, but I think we would be heavy favorites against ANYONE at Camp Randall. As for Purdue and Penn State, they lost by 45 and 38 points respectively. I know home field advantage is important, and losing Russell and our staff hurts, but we are talking about two completely different calibers of teams.

2010.........the BIG sucked ass.......

Then Wisconsin went and played TCU and ye all saw what happened

You do realize I was talking about our 2011 offense, right? I said "that's what everyone said after 2010", and then implied that we proved them wrong by being better in 2011.

Also, we had by far the best offensive effort of the year against TCU. We had about 400 yards, and controlled time of possession. The reason we didn't score (if you recall that game, which apparently you don't) is that botched special teams plays meant that we literally started four drives on the goal line. You can have a good offensive day result in 19 points when you are repeatedly having to go 95+ yards.

We had 4.9 Rushing YPA and 7.6 Passing YPA against TCU. That's not exactly anemic, and it certainly doesn't count as "getting exposed" when you are going up against one of the best defenses in America.

Impressive Jed and also your follow-up additions RA. :target:

One of the glaring things (shhh... it's a secret)... that really contributed to some of those numbers is... turnover ratio and stupid f'ing penalties...

The intangibles;... it appears we are getting better... wait, :tape2: can't say this for sure... as fall ball has not started yet... but I believe that having an "O" running the same sets or style for 2 years in a row... < lol... WooT... will enable us to have better timing, consistency and effort, thus..... Hopefully will in-turn aid us in everything from 3rd down efficiency to scoring to well... just about everything.. including staying fresh... as if we eliminate the STUPID Shit, this in itself would have allowed us to be in every game we played last year.

Think about it.... I said, think about it.... every game... even where we got blown up... by game’s end... a few STUPID mistakes took us out of our comfort zone...

But anyhow... I just wanted to say I was impressed.. and really enjoyed reading something about sports for a change... and kudos to you Brasky for your complimenting Jed's thread as well...

Nice job gents!

Mind blowingly bad.

Something I've always thought about: Is turnover margin a matter of skill, mentality, or dumb luck?

It's a combination of the 3.

I think the skill hasn't necessarily been lacking, but the mentality and dumb luck sure have been.

94 Nittany Lions came to mind right away.

There are several more. A good offense yes, best ever? puhleaz!

Yeah, I have already posted about all the penalties. 2011 was MUCH better than 2010.

http://www.sportshoopla.com/forums/nebraska-cornhuskers/24434-year-penalty.html

Apparently I have forgotten to go in after the Capital One bowl and add those penalties in. I will do that this week.

But turnovers definitely continue to be an issue. Not even complete turnovers. Just fumbling the ball at all even if we get them back. Taylor himself has 29 of Nebraska's 77 fumbles over the last 2 years. He didn't lose many of them but they are still drive killers.

Brasky...for whatever reason... all I see is 3 red x's on your previous post......possible links or images...???

In regards to turnovers... some of it is true skill on how we tackle the ball carrier or how we position ourselves defending the pass and some of it is mental... not securing the ball before we engage hits... as well as seeing a hole and getting impatient prior to collecting the ball... and yes... even the best ball handlers can have some poor luck. But most of our turnover problem is not due to bad luck but lack of focus and lack of consistency.

I know most of you football guru's will understand this but some may not so I will touch on it...

Having the same "O" set's and styles for the first time in numerous years should/could be huge for us. I know you all have heard that the "Game slows down for players after a while"... and in that very statement is some truth to repetition for our "O" players. This year, rather than running 3/4 speed because they wanted to avoid mistakes or be where they are supposed to be at a certain interval... they won't have to think about it as much, thus (less delayed reaction/action) they will move quicker and that split second can be the difference between a 3 yard gain and a 40 yard gain.

I know technically Ball tied the TD record but lets be real. He tied it in 14 games. Barry Sanders' record is for 11 games and does not include his 5 TD performance in 3 quarters of play in the Holiday Bowl that year.
