Now, here is a flaw in this.............

Take Wisconsin for instance.........losing a big time QB, plus losing a lot from the Offensive Line that opened up those gigantic holes to lead to all those Rushing Yards......

Yea, the guy who got the yards is coming back, but not all the guys around him are.

I still maintain Rex could have put up similar numbers if you plugged him into that offense last year.

You know what those recieving stats tell me? We need to find a JUCO pro style QB from this class if Taylor is responsible for another triple digit ranked passing attack.

It will be easy to sell JUCO QB's on that receiving corps. Bo wants a multiple offense. If you don't have a guy who can pass, then a multiple offense sputters.

OR maybe.. Just maybe... Brion can pull his head out of his ass.

I'll take a defense loaded with experience and senior leadership over a defense loaded with youngsters and 3 all-americans.

Or maybe this is gonna be Martinez year. He has been focusing on his pass. I am cautiously excited to see what he has.

And yeah Jed the breakdowns are great. Can you do one for returning false starts too. :D

The offense #s don't surprise me so much considering NU returns that vast majority of it's skill players who contrubuted last season.

Key contributer gone

Brandon Kinnie

GP..No...Yds...Ave..TD..Long...AVE/PG
13..22...257...11.7..1....61.......19.8.....(2nd on Team)

With the same cast (minus Kinnie), NU's offense ranked the following in 2011 BiG 10 Stats

Rushing Yds......3rd (bright spot)
Receiving Yds...10th
Catches...........9th
Punt RTN Yds....6th
Kick RTN Yds.....4th

Experience won't help much if these 2011 stats stay similar

First Downs.............7th
3rd Down Convs.......4th (bright spot)
Penalties.................9th
Time of Possession...11th
Fumbles Lost...........10th
Thrown Int's............T3rd (bright spot)
Red Zone TD's..........7th
Completion %...........7th (56%)

They may have the most returning experience in production, but these same guys still need to improve on execution, discipline and ball control. Not just a little..A lot.

Catch the ball
Hold onto the ball
Don't kill drives
Convert the Red Zone

One could have said the same thing about us after 2010. We lost three offensive lineman and a very good QB as well, and all we did was have the best offensive season in B1G history. The line doesn't concern me for this year. The two things that have me very concerned are the QB play and the change in our staff. I think we will be worse because of both of those, but I think we have a much more favorable schedule to make up for it.

If we can get out of Lincoln alive, I fully expect us to be undefeated going into the B1G Title Game. We'll find out a lot on September 29th.

:L

possible losses for whiskey(with reasons for loss in parenthesis):

-Nebraska(i know you stated that above, but still its a possible loss)
-@Purdue (i know this one is a HUGE stretch but away games aint nuthin easy in the B1G)
-Michigan State(for some reason, they are a lot of people's pick to win the B1G this year, based on that, this is a possible loss.)
-Ohio State(Urban Meyer. that is all)
@Penn State(......@Penn State)

Year 2 for Beck, and year 2 for the players in Beck's system.

There will be some execution and disiplinary improvements offensively.

How much is the question?

this might just be me, but for the first time since Bo was hired, i think most husker fans are not worried about the offense....

now that damned defense is a different story

So, combining both sides of the ball, we end up with this....

Overall:
1. Ohio St-2.14 + 4 = 6.14
2. Wisconsin-5.28 + 3.6 = 8.88
3. Nebraska-9.42 + 1.8 = 11.22
4. Michigan St-2.28 + 9 = 11.28
5. Purdue-4.71 + 7.8 = 12.51
6. Illinois-4 + 9 = 13
7. Northwestern-9.42 + 4 = 13.42
8. Michigan-8.14 + 5.4 = 13.54
9. Indiana-7.85 + 5.8 = 13.65
10. Penn St-5.85 + 8.4 = 14.25
11. Iowa-7 + 9.8 = 16.8
12. Minnesota-8.42 + 8.6 = 17.2

You can't add averages.

Here are your overall combined numbers.

1. Ohio St-2.91
2. Wisconsin-4.58
3. Michigan St-5.16
4. Purdue-6
5. Illinois-6.08
6. Nebraska-6.25
7. Penn St-6.91
T8. Indiana-7
T8. Michigan-7
10. Northwestern-7.16
11. Iowa-8.16
12. Minnesota-8.5

Bo will plug the players where needed on defense. I'm not worried about the D. My main concern is how much Taylor has improved or the offense isn't going anywhere.

It's nice to see a metric that takes into account returning numbers rather than "returning starters." While we may have the most returning starters, pretty much every starter on our team this year got major playing time last year. That's why I think it is hilarious that so many people are dismissing us while crowning Michigan as B1G favorites.

I agree, "returning starters" numbers can be misleading. What if you lose just your QB and RB. Then you have 9 returning starters on offense which looks great but doesn't tell the whole story.

When I did the offensive numbers I looked at the list of all purpose yards for each team. I went back and looked at how many offensive players each team is returning that contributed last year. Here is the list of percentage of players returning on offense that contributed last year.

1. Wisconsin 75% (they are returning their top 3 guys from last year)
2. Penn St 67.7% (they had 31 players contribute, by far the most, and return 21 of them)
3. Nebraska 66.6% (they return their top 6 guys and 9 of their top 10)
4. Ohio St 65% (they return 7 of their top 8)
5. Illinois 61.9% (they lose their top 3 but return their next 7 guys)
6. Purdue 57.8%
T7. Indiana 57.1% (they return their top 5)
T7. Northwestern 57.1% (they return their top 3)
9. Minnesota 55%
10. Iowa 52.1% (FUCK IOWA!!!!!)
11. Michigan 50% (they return their top 3)
12. Michigan St 40% (they only return 8 of their 20 offensive contributors. They will rely HEAVILY on their defense)
