Texas A&M expects to announce plans to leave Big 12, according to report - ESPN

Big 12 officials expect Texas A&M to announce within the next week that it plans to leave the conference.

A person with knowledge of what was discussed during a conference call of the Big 12 board of directors Saturday told The Associated Press that Texas A&M officials talked about their anticipated departure.

"No major surprises," said the person, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of the sensitive nature of the talks. "A&M didn't say they were leaving, but certainly gave every indication that's what they plan on doing."

As for the timing of such a move, that person said, "it would not be a surprise that it would happen sometime this week" and likely the only thing that could keep that from happening would be if the 12-team SEC determines it is not ready to add any more teams at this point.

They can't be invited until they contractually free from the Big12. An invitation from the SEC while A&M is still under contract with the Big12 would mean that the SEC was the catalyst for the contract being voided giving the Big12 & maybe Texas to sue the SEC. Which they threatened to do a few weeks ago when A&M talks started heating up again.

That's why the SEC presidents voted against expansion that weekend.

Then what was all that talk that the SEC was set and fine at 12 teams a few weeks ago?

That's what I'm saying, Texas & the Big12 threatened to sue the SEC just a day or two before the SEC presidents voted to stay at 12. They had to vote against expanding & offering A&M or risk being sued.

A&M waited a couple of weeks for it to calm down & then politely asked the Big12 to outline their way out.

It's all legal maneuvering.

Slive and Loftin aren't idiots. They wouldn't be doing all of this if they weren't sure it was going to work. From what i hear, Vandy and Georgia re hesitant about adding another team, but the rest are on board with the move.
