To all the veterans out there, thank you so much for your service to our country, for the sacrifices you make to protect our freedoms, and for keeping our country safe from those who would harm us. We as a nation are forever grateful to you all.

had the option of joining the medical corps, but volunteered to join fighting unit instead
wrote the poem after Battle of Ypres, after presiding over the funeral of a fallen brother in arms.
he died of pneumonia before the war ended.
