I suppose that's his prerogative, T.O. would work for the minimum I think.
I'm sure CB could turn over some of the money he's invested and make it work for him.
And if that doesn't work out, he can always make gay **** and hit people.

Teams just want to see what their younger players can do, and many teams (besides teams like ours) are already pushing the salary cap limits. Pittsburgh would love to get a deal going with one of their star receivers, for example, but they can't.

I'm shocked to learn that teams are lining up at the door to sign a malcontent, domestic violence loving, aging running back that can't pick up yards in short yardage situations and seems to be developing a fumbling problem. What has this world come to?

Ced should hire Hobson as his publicist. I'm sure all it takes will be for the other teams to realize that he's a 'Bell Cow' and he'll get signed in no time.

The sad thing is he's been offered a contract. He's just refusing to take it because it's for the minimum. 3 possibilities:

1) An injury occurs during training camp/preseason and he's signed as a backup.

2) An injury occurs, but the team finds/has other resources. He isn't signed.

3) No major injuries and he isn't signed.

The possibilities of him signing a contract once we're into training camp are small. And in the one scenario he does, it'll still likely be for the minimum. And that's not to say one of the other plethora of backs available aren't signed instead of him.

Dig your own grave...

He refuses to play on an NFL team for $800,000+, no way he plays in the UFL for $50,000.

If it were a veteran player who never got a fair deal I might feel a little sympathy. Benson was a top 5 pick in the NFL draft before the rookie wage scale. he basically stole money from the Bears. 30 million dollar contract and no production. money shouldnt be an issue for this guy...

now about Benson the player, he's not great, but I'm suprised there's no interest outside of two team at the leauge minimum

In 2010, he had 7 fumbles. 2011 he had 5 fumbles. 3.9 ypc is mediocre at best. He doesn't have the speed to break long runs, nor does he have the power or decisiveness for short yardage carries or goal-line stands (he absolutely sucks within 10 yards of the endzone). He cannot catch out of the backfield.

He's not worth a starting job just for 1000+ yards given the number of carries he requires to get there. He's not worth much for a change-of-pace role as he doesn't excel at anything. That plus he'll whine to the media when he doesn't get his carries.

The only thing he is good for at this juncture is injury insurance for the league minimum. No more, no less.

And that's all he's been offered as. Doesn't surprise me at all.

The front offices around the leauge have decided that's his value, so I can't really argue.

As far as his numbers go he's played 1/4 of his games as a Bengal against the Steelers and Ravens defenses. that has to dent his numbers over the past couple seasons.

personally I'd rather sign Benson over BJGE or Michael Bush if his contract is worth half as much as they make per yr...

he's not great, he's not an every down back, he's not a game changer etc... for depth and as a quality backup I'd sign him to a 2 yr/$3 million dollar deal

I think he just has very little upside..... Most teams think of running backs as a dime a dozen - So why would teams want to pay 30 year old back that seems to get in trouble at least once every 2 seasons? I suppose it would be worth the risk if he were a good 'locker-room' presence and had some versatility on the field, but as Rey points out, that's simply not true. I'll always be fond of the performance he gave us in the 2009 season and especially in the playoffs agains the Jets.... Unfortunately he hasn't been the same since.

I don't think he has upside because he's already a proven commodity. he's rushed for 1000 yds each of the past 3 seasons against a very tough schedule..

i think he can still contribute on the right team.

My guess is that his carries and yards will go down, but his ypc would go up as a complimentary player on a good offense

I may be in the minority here but I believe Cedric Benson would have a great year behind this O-line. People may blame Benson for his recent lack of production but it's hard to do anything when you have dodge a tackler as soon as the ball is handed to you. Don't forget in '09, when he had a decent line blocking for him, he was a monster!

Yea, but he's not the back he was either, we used up his best years, he might have some gas left in the tank, but its going to run out.
