It's hard telling with the roster moves we've seen this season. JC Ramirez doesn't have optional assignments, but I'd find it hard to believe someone would claim a 27 year old that's already been outrighted a half dozen times by other teams. The Reds should have two buses fueled and ready everyday. There's one going to Louisville and another one heading to Cincy. Players released have to find their own transportation. LOL
This team seems to be in a alternate universe when it comes to evaluating the talent in this bullpen.
Bottom of the 9th two out rally keeps the streak alive....
Well....at least they didn't blow a four run lead and lose the game.
The two biggest 8 and 2/3 pitching Reds' heartbreaks for me would have to be when George Hendrick hit a 2 strike changeup for a HR to break up Mario Soto's no-hitter in St. Louis.
The other would be Ron Robinson's bid for a perfect game just four months earlier than the Tom Browning perfecto. Wallace Johnson had a 9th inning, two out, 2 strike PH single to break up the perfect game and then lost the shutout on a 2 strike Tim Raines HR. The Reds won both games, but you don't get the chance to see very many perfect games.... we almost had two in one season.
I recall a pitcher named Bill Durham (not Bull) who was pitching for Tulsa in the old Amer. Assoc. back in about 1977 ... had 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th of a no-no, leading 1-0. Evansville guy gets a walk with 2 outs and Darrell Porter hit the next pitch out of the ballpark. I think the Bevins near no-hitter in the 1947 W.S. was probably a bigger deal, though.
I was at Tom Brownings perfect game. I will never forget that night. The game was almost rained out. and the game wasn't televised by either team. (now every game is televised) That was one game I am glad I didn't give up on, and go home because of the rain. A lot went home, but around the 7th inning the stadium started filling up again.
I'm not sure but I think the Dodgers had another perfect game pitched against them that year or the next
The World Series always magnifies the moment. The Willie Mays catch, Don Larsen running into Yogi's arms, and our favorite.....the Carlton Fisk HR. That HR has to be the most iconic moment in sports highlights that misrepresents the eventual outcome of a World Series.
Eburg:
I didn't get to see the Tom Browning perfect game, I'm envious of you on that one. The Ron Robinson near miss was as close as I've come to a perfect game. I've seen 3 no-hitters live, but unfortunately two of them were at the Reds expense. Rick Wise, Jake Arrieta and Homer at home.
I wish I'd seen Tom Seaver's no-no, but only caught the last half on the radio.
The Brewers owned the Reds last year, normally it's been the other way around. I believe how we play the Brewers will determine if the Reds end up 4th or 5th. Right now because of the Reds bullpen, I believe the Brewers might have a slight edge, But I have nothing to back that up with. I haven't seen the Brewers or kept up with them much this year. pretty much just guessing
