Hoov's ERA standing at 14.34. No matter how much this dugout staff wants him to succeed, it's clear it's not working. The rest of the roster deserves more respect than that. Simon at least has apparently figured out something. Hoovie allegedly made an "adjustment" that only allows balls to clear the fence by 20 feet or more.
Price said the additional two runs changed his decision to bring Wood back in the ninth.
My point would be....
If the initial four run lead wasn't enough cushion to bring Hoover in..... then why is he even on the 40 man roster?
JJ is probably a great guy. Seems to be a shake your hand look you in the eye stand up sort of fellow, but professional baseball isn't about whether you like the guy or not. It's whether a guy can help the team or not and I'm talking about helping the other team.
Price is known for being more like Dusty than Dusty ever was, squandering his bullpen in the face of the eyeball test. The other night, Cingrani was actually throwing STRIKES and Price didn't even let him finish the inning. It backfired again.
I agree on Hoover. He and Price fed the media a line of pig shit the other day about how Hoovs had made an "adjustment" to stop tipping his pitches. The problem is, the guy seems musclebound. Rolls his slider way off the plate and basically tells the hitter, 'here comes the git-me-over.'
Without a blowaway heater like most relievers have, his slider is nothing more than a waste pitch.
Yeah, Price bringing Hoover in like that didn't make sense to me. Wood seems to be (and I say this very cautiously) getting some outs. Maybe he wanted to save him in case we needed him tonight
I hate to say it but, there is a chance Mesoraco is done. It's going to be a hard road back for him. I'm basing this mainly on how he played before his injury. He just never looked comfortable. At the plate or while he was catching. Then again maybe there is something they are not telling us.
It will be interesting to see how Barnhart handles catching every day. I think he will do well. His backup, We just have a small sample size. He did alright' but the Reds might go with someone else. Not sure who?
The Reds better pray that Barnhart doesn't get hurt. They have no one that I can see that has any major league experience. Cabrera only has 14 games in the majors and a handful of springtraining games. Skipworth a little less than that. It will be hard to find someone at this time of the season. Maybe Corky Miller still has a little left in the tank. lol
Catchers can be signed but the quality really declines when the best these guys have in their resume is 493 games at Triple-A. Chad Wallach is probably next on the depth chart for now in terms of experience ... and he's plain awful. Skipworth would be but he's on ankle surgery rehab. I think the Reds have a nice catcher down in the low-lows but Cabrera will get a lot of minutes. Kinda like Brayan Pena, except worse.
I just think they are in deep dodo if Barnhart goes down. Then if you think about it the Reds are ready in deep dodo, so it really won't bake any difference...... Didn't 1507 say he used to catch? Maybe he's the answer. lol
