How can they trade for the long term and also take on a bigger salary now? I assume by trading for the long term you mean a player under contract. If their salary is big this year, it will also be big next year when Geno's cap comes back on the books. All the Pens UFAs are 3rd/4th liners that need to be replaced by similar contracts... 3 mil or under and kiss Talbot good-bye in the off-season.

I know, but Shero would have time to move whomever needed to move. There's a reason I'm not GM. I couldn't make this decision.

The more I think about it, this is a great time to trade Gogo. The defense is strong to make a deep run.. well they won't make a deep run. Trading Gogo now gives Lovejoy plenty of time to develop this year and compete next year with Depres among other for the 5th or 6th spot (depending on how you value Engelland). That savings could go a long way in FA also (500k-800k). Gogo for a non-UFA, under 2.5 million per year, young foward. Basically a Gogo type level player but on offense.

If a trade is made, it's Gogo a-goin'. (Sorry...cheesin it)

If you think about our other options to trade, there's just not much. We don't have a lot of prospects available, and not many I wanna trade. Despres is untouchable, Bennett is probably untouchable, Tangradi is injured and probably stays put, as well as Jeffrey, there's not a lot of roster players we can afford to dump with our injury bug, and we lack a 3rd AND 4th rounder for this upcoming draft. So...yeah, not much to work with.
