I want us to spread out the cap as much as possible. We have too many holes but if we are smart, we can button up some of these weak spots.

I think you can be successful either way - as long as you get quality. Getting a couple of studs usually makes it easier for teammates, because the studs command double-teams. Then again, if the stud turns out to be a dud (a Haynesworth, if you will), you're in trouble.

Regardless of who we sign, I would much rather add an impact FA at each level on defense that also includes Baker. So, (2) DL, (1) ILB & (1) S in FA then fill in the pieces with the draft starting with DL in the 1st, possibly LB or S in the 2nd and DL once again in the 3rd round. RB in 4th round, TE in round 5, OL in round 6 and specialist in round 7 regardless of position. Looking for a possible KO/punt return specialist in round 7 if available.

(4) FA on defense: (2) DL, (1) ILB, (1) S [Baker, Campbell, Brown, Cyprien]
(3) FA on offense: (1) QB, (1) LG, (1) WR [Cousins, Leary, Pryor]

I don't know if we have the cap space for (7) FA but we need upgrades at each position along with Cousins being resigned. I'm wavering on whether or not to resign Baker or bring in Hankins. Our 1st round pick should be DL I would think.

HTTR!

I'd like to keep Baker. Even though he hasn't been quite what we hoped, he's our only starting caliber big man on D, and I think he really wants to succeed here. And I'd really like him to succeed here - maybe I'm thinking too much like a fan.

I guess I view it the other way. When you statistically have one of the worst defenses, I believe it become as question of quantity and not quality. Even mid-level free agents would be upgrades at the following positions:

FS
NT
DE
ILB
ILB

That is pretty sad.

Two of our starting DLinemen would be on the wrong side of 30. This is the approach we have taken in the past and its killed this team.

I agree that we need to target as many FAs as possible.

Until cuts are made we only have $34 mil for re-signing, FA and our draft picks.
You guys have the right idea, but i don't think we have enough money to get the FA that would really make an impact. However if we target defense or offense and draft well -- its a good start.

For instance, Malik McDowell could be drafted instead of spending 8 million a year on Campbell
or Ross could be drafted instead of bringing back Djax, saving 8 million

I have no idea why the cuts haven't been made yet.

D.Hall, S.Lauvao, Jean-Francios, and Paul will add over 13mil to the 2017 cap if cut.
I'm not sure if all of them will get the axe due to their locker room influence.
Also they all may be willing to re-structure. I think RJF & Paul may get saved( if they re-structure) for depth
while Lauvao and Hall are done, due to rookies and FA beating them out

I think we should take a long look at Torrey Smith. Bring him in a decent deal and Kenny Britt as well. That would probably cost us the same as Bringing Jackson back for 10 million. We need to make smart moves here. Get a decent LG and throw the rest at defense.
I'd go for Terrell Pryor if the price is less than DJax's. Granted, he's not polished and he'd probably prefer playing QB, but he's as physically gifted as it gets - after Julio Jones. Once he really gets it, he can be an elite WR - and he started to get it last season.

Appears Kenny Britt signed with the Eagles:

Smitty‏ @SmittyBarstool
Getting a billion texts from people that Kenny Britt is in Atlantic City and is bragging about signing with the Eagles. So, cool. I guess.

There are restrictions to this process. A free agent is not permitted to visit with a team other than their current team. Furthermore, a player cannot be in contact with a team that is not their own. Only the agent can communicate on the player's behalf during this period. If a player acts as his own agent, he's out of luck -- the NFL does not allow communication with another team before Wednesday.

In the memo, the NFL also reminds teams that breaking the rules of the negotiating period could be considered conduct detrimental to the league as well as a violation of the league's anti-tampering policy. Translation: Play by our rules or we're coming for your wallet and/or draft picks.

So while the big announcements won't come until Wednesday afternoon, consider the next two days the process of prepping the meal and setting the table before dinner is served.

so eagles are in fact in violation of the rules
