I was wondering why our top freshmen recruit (a 4 star, Mikal Bridges) was not playing.

I found out that Wright wants to redshirt him. This is pretty rare for college basketball, non-medical at least. Especially for a four star player.

I have mixed emotions. It's unlikely he'll be an NBA early entrant, so it would be good to have him for another 4 years. But at the same time, he was brought in to help this class. It screws up the recruiting continuity. Anybody have any opinions and precedence with this?

I think redshirting is always a good idea unless the player figures to get more than 12 minutes per game.

I don't see why more players aren't redshirted, you give them another year to develop and you likely weren't going to use them a lot anyways

If he's a guy that can come in this season and contribute and make an impact, then there's something they're not telling us. I think the general rule is that coaches do not like to redshirt.. they recruit w/the expectations that a guy can come help the program right away.

Agreed. I love the idea of redshirting if a guy isn't going to get big time experience. When it comes to PT I always lean towards the redshirt.

If we are talking medical redshirt decision then a lot of that goes into how the player feels.
