The Diamondbacks fell short on Jake Peavy but even so, CBSSports.com’s [ame="[MEDIA=twitter]362579862277455872[/MEDIA]"]Jon Heyman reports[/ame] that they’re mulling offers on Ian Kennedy, who’s having a lousy season, with a 5.22 ERA. The Padres and Angels are said to be interested. Unless Kennedy threw at GM Kevin Towers’ dog (a possibility given that 10-game suspension for that beanbrawl with the Dodgers), I don’t really see how that makes sense for Arizona, as he’s got two more years under club control. The D-backs would only save about $1.5 million this year by unloading him.

Hearing it will "likely" be lefty reliever Joe Thatcher plus a prospect for Kennedy.

Cabrera will get at least 50 games. The Padres will go with Forsythe & Amarista at SS for the rest of the season. They're not going to the postseason this year anyway. Too bad they couldn't dump Volquez. I'm a big nervous about Headley. I don't think he's worth more than 10M per year.

All indications are that there are no new violations from Everth. He already served his time.

I am 50/50 on the trade ... I think this same trade could have been executed in the winter. We will be rid of Volquez at the end of the year anyway ... Marquis is DL for the next year or so an may be done as a Padre as well. We get Luebke & Kelly back in 2014 added to Stults, Cashner and Ross with the additional arms of Layne, Richard, O'Sullivan and Weiland to go with a BP of Vincent, Thayer, Stauffer, Gregerson and Street -- I see Kennedy as average and not worth what was paid​

I can't argue with this but am hoping the guys upstairs know something we don't. I'd love to hear an in-depth explanation about the reasoning of the trade. Maybe this time next year Kennedy will have proven himself a solid #2 starter for us.

O'Sullivan has benefited from being up here but I can't help but think now he needs to go back to Tuscon and work on his stamina then come back in September and be a long reliever and/or garbage innings pitcher for us.
