Bossman you'll be missed
@DetroitRedWings: The Red Wings have agreed to terms with defenseman Niklas Kronwall on a seven-year deal.
Good signing by the Wings. Tough d-man to play against. But i have to ask, did he jump for joy to celebrate the signing?
DETROIT -- The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to terms with defenseman Niklas Kronwall on a seven-year contract worth $33.25 million, for an average of $4.75 million per season.
Kronwall, 30, was in the final season of a five-year contract that pays him $3.75 million this season and has a salary-cap hit of $3 million per season.
While Kronwall is off a slow start this season (one goal, one assist, minus-3 rating in nine games), there is no denying how valuable he is to this team with his puck-moving skills and penchant for delivering huge open-ice hits.
He took on more of a leadership role this season by being named an alternate captain following Kris Draper's retirement.
Kronwall is coming off one of his best seasons. He notched a career-high 11 goals, to go along with 26 assists, in 77 games in 2010-11 and followed that up with a strong playoff performance, picking up six points (two goals, four assists) and providing a physical presence.
good signing.
maybe the extra cash in the locker room will get them jump started.
been a while since i have seen a 4 game losing streak. wierd thing is, they actually haven't looked all that bad.
Nice signing for the Wings. It was just a matter of time. Rafalski is gone & Lidstrom isn't getting any younger. They had to keep him. It would have been nice to see Kronwall on the open market though. I think he could have gotten more money.
Next up for Holland is taking care of the goaltending problem. Howard isn't going to get it done.

i disagree with goaltending being the problem. Howard played quite well in the playoffs last year.
Overall team defense has been this team's problem the last couple years. I don't think a different goalie is going to solve that
Kronwall will earn $4.25 million in 2012-13 and $6 million in each of the next three seasons. He***8217;ll make $5.5 million in 2016-17 and $3.5 million and $1.75 million, respectively, the final two years of the deal.
That's why they went after Vokoun in the offseason. San Jose has made changes the past two seasons & they went into Detroit & beat them again. Howard only faced 20 shots & took the loss against Minnesota who was starting their backup Harding. If the Wings want to win the cup they have to do something about their goaltending. Maybe another move as well. They're basically the same team that's lost to the Sharks the past two years in the playoffs. Sorry I don't think they can win the Cup by standing pat.
