Jim Develanno had emphasized nearly a month ago that "our draft needs to centered around skilled players with some size, in order to be able to compete in this league". And, it looks as if they have included some of that in their selections today, along with a couple of guys that seem quite masterful with their sticks and with their feet.

Detroit's really looking towards the future if they've got their 20012 draft picks all set and squared away.

There first pick, though, again was a forward. Only twice since the lockout season have they chosen a dman in their first selection - Kindl in 2005 (19th overall) and Smith in 2007 (27th overall) - but, they did select 2 of them in this year's draft (their 4th and 5th selection). That appears to show signs that sticking out like a sore thumb, they have their minds mde up to go out an secure a dman at the July 1st free agent rush. And, chosing Patterson as their 2nd pick speaks rather loudly that they aren't comfortable about anyone already in the system whose behind Howard. The question mark on their first pick Frk is that he suffered a concussion 2 seasons ago, and was plaqued by it the following season also. That's always a concern when the NHLOA has torn the page on charging out of the rule book, except for the cses that occur against the boards or if the aggressor leaves his feet.

I see that, with one finger, the time warp has simply flown ahead with lightning speed. Sometimes I should read what I type before submitting it.
