...hoping you can beat the "Sinstripes" tonight.

It looks quite likely my Red Sox will get rained out tonight, FYI.

I live less than 2 miles from Fenway Park, and it's solid overcast here.

Well thanks, Red Sox fan. My wild ass guess is that we take the last 2. Tonight's going to be tough. Nova can be great. We're overdue for a loss and Porcello is our #5 though he's been pitching well lately. It doesn't look as if the Yanks will be much of a threat to your boys this year though.

Don't get me started on last year's Red Sox. Just take my word for it that
Bobby Valentine was the WORST Red Sox manager since Don Zimmer back
in the '70s.

Even with the injuries the Sox would have won at least 90 games with a manager who had a clue
about when to relieve pitchers.

OOPS!

I forgot the Sox are on the road tonight, not at home.

That doesn't change my desire to see the "Sinstripes" lose, however.

Kick some butt tonight!

Just be happy you didn't sign LaMont as skipper. And enjoy Jake Peavey.... I sure would.

LaMont I know nothing about, "Not-My-Valentine" I have watched for a whole season.

Don Zimmer, BTW, got nicknamed "The Gerbil" by Bill Lee a long time ago. Zimmer never forgave him for that!
Considering how puffed up by chewing tobacco Zimmer's cheeks always were, and how small a brain he seemed to have, that was possibly the best nickname I ever became familiar with.

I think we overpaid for Peavy, since we gave up a young shortstop who's probably going to win a
Gold Glove or 2 before he's through, but done is done.

Peavy's 1st start in a Boston uni was good, overall, but he'll have some work to do to convince me
he was worth the price we paid.

It's appropriate you gave Iglesias (the shortstop referred to in my previous post) uniform number 1.

He's going to be #1 in the hearts of many Tiger fans even if he didn't come out of their farm system.

Iglesias' glove is sweet and his bat is getting better.

Refresh my memory please: Alan Trammell played short for you in Zimmer's days didn't he? And wore #4.
Is that correct?

He wore #3. Late 70's thru mid 90's. Cameron Maybin wore #4...

Don't remember watching Maybin.

Was Whitaker Trammel's keystone partner or was it someone else?

Hope your team can come from behind tonight.

Sweet Lou and Tram turned more double plays than any other duo in baseball history. (Sweet Iggy is me making reference to him wearing Whitakers #1). I'm holding out for that comeback too. Really figured Nova would get knocked around tonight. Not so much though.

Tell that to Oriole fans who remember Mark Belanger.

Not saying Whitaker and Trammel weren't good, but I'd take Belanger over either of them.

It occurs to me you're talking about career numbers as opposed to who was better in his prime.

Are you?

FYI, Peavy's been lifted in the 6th after giving up 2 runs in the inning. He still has a 1 run lead.

They played 19 seasons together. Turning more double plays than anyone in the history of Major League Baseball. I'm not concerned about the opinions of Os fans on that. Belanger couldnt hit a lick and retired when i was probably two or three. (I dont remember ever watching him play) He may have been great in the field, idk.

At shortstop, hitting is a nice extra, not a necessity.

The Orioles won multiple WSs with Belanger at shortstop, and
in my younger days the St. Louis Cardinals did likewise with Dal Maxvill.
at short. Charles Dallan Maxvill (his legal name)
might have been less of a hitter than Belanger.

They both did their best hitting in clutch situations, however.

I've lived in Boston most of my adult life, but grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma,
which was Cardinal country. Probably still is even if the local minor league team has been
in the farm systems of Texas teams for a long time now.

Kick some Sinstripe butt this afternoon, Tigers!

Grew up in Maryland. Mark was a great shortstop. Even when I was a kid I thought Tram got shafted by Ripken at the end and of his career. Loved watching tram and Lou turn two!
