Here is the things with McClain. Sure he will get offered big by someone probably. I just don't think he is a guy that is looking for the highest paycheck. I think he needs normality. I really think he fit in well with our guys and liked it. He also liked his coaches. I think that is huge for him. I may be totally wrong but I think he wants to win and I also think he needs to be around the people that love him.

I agree with you IF the money is relatively close. If it isn't he's likely gone. I was hoping we'd lock him up before he saw any other offers, but it looks like he may want to wait and see them from what I've read.

those mistakes came when I could edit. Now they'll come in bunches.
I'm not real smart, but I can lift heavy things...

I think you are on "double secret probation". Wait a while and then ask a mod

An exclusive-rights free agent, Leary signed a one-year deal worth $585,000. He has started 31 of the last 32 games, missing one game in 2014 because of a groin injury. Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2012, Leary has developed into a dependable starter between Pro Bowlers Tyron Smith and Travis Frederick.

The Cowboys also signed tackle Darrion Weems to a one-year deal worth $585,000 as an exclusive-rights free agent. He missed last season with shoulder reconstruction surgery.

The Cowboys also re-worked the contract of linebacker Dekoda Watson, dropping his base salary from $1.25 million to $745,000. Signed in November, Watson played in only one regular-season game because of a hamstring injury. He played in both playoff contests.

Good news and what a bargain. I love Leary. So underrated with all the publicity the other 3 get. Not to say he is as good as them, but he is a darn good Guard IMO.

I thought it was good news. Leary's knee must limit him to 1 or 2 year deals.

Should be interesting over the next two & half weeks...and I'm not even thinking about the wide & RB.

Sorry....I can't start threads and refuse to allow the efforts of turning this board into a "ghost town" win out.

Thought this would shed some light on what the cowboys are thinking with regards to Romo's contract.

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo has an NFL-high $27.773 million salary-cap figure for 2015.

And it could stay that way.

"Theoretically we could [leave it that high]," executive vice president Stephen Jones said. "Or some form of that."

According to ESPN Stats & Information, the highest salary-cap figure in the NFL since 2000 has been the $24,752,941 the Washington Redskins heaped on defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth in 2010. New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees ($26.4 million) and New England Patriots cornerback Darrelle Revis ($25 million) are also scheduled to eclipse Haynesworth's mark against the 2015 cap.

Once the NFL finalizes its cap, the Cowboys can determine whether they need to restructure Romo's contract at all. They can gain as much as $12.8 million in room with a full restructure but that would raise Romo's cap figures from 2016-19. They could take smaller bites at the deal throughout the offseason when or if they need to gain cap space.

"I don't know that it's break glass in case of emergency," Jones said. "It's just how we want to structure things and who do we want to push [money] out on, if anybody, and do we want to push out. Those will be decisions we have to come to grips with."

Romo turns 35 in April. Teams generally don't want to restructure contracts for older players because it leads to more dead money down the road.

Tyron Smith is just 24. The Cowboys can gain about $8.2 million in cap space by re-working his contract.

"We know what our options are," Jones said.

That huge 2015 cap number was created by all the restructures. Let's hope we don't do it again or if we do it is very minor. As horrible of a situation as we have created with his contract it's better than having $20m in dead money after we part ways down the road. Imagine how much we could help this team if his cap figure was similar to his salary and we bit the bullet as we went along.

I agree 100%. It would be great IF we can bite the bullet on Romo this season...sure would make the remaining contract tolerable. NOW Smith? ________________??

Smith is the exact kind of guy I do restructure if needed. I don't do it just to make some impulse move like Jerry seemed to a few years back, but if something comes up that truly helps the team I go right to the Smith contract and get it done (Murray or pass rusher). The guys I look to restructure are the ones that are very likely (never a guarantee) to be here for many more years and have a contract that matches. This eliminates the problem of having a huge amount of dead money for a guy that is no longer on your team. Smith's contract is so long and he's expected to be here for as far as we can see, so restructuring him really does split the money out over 5 years. This makes him an ideal candidate, unlike Romo a couple of years from now and Carr now, where you kind of end up with a guy that you are keeping solely because you can't afford to cut him. If we hadn't restructured Carr we could cut him and use the savings to sign his replacement and likely still have money to spare. Now we cut him and we need a player and have no savings to spend on that player unless you designate him post 6/1 which just extends the problem into a 2nd year.

The Boys are starting to do a lot better on contracts and cap management. I bite the bullet and don't touch Romo's deal and be grateful about next years cap space by being frugal and smart. We might have been 1 play away from getting to the championship game but we are not 1 player away at all.

Stephen get your creative thinking cap on and go get it done without burying us for the next several years.

Thought about last years draft when I read this. Dallas still seems sold on D Lawrence.
If they are....couple with the 4th round LB and a couple of additions this draft and I'd say Dallas looks to be in good shape.

A year ago at this time the Cowboys started to focus on Boise State defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence. They had him as the third-best right defensive end in the draft. After taking Zack Martin in the first round, they traded up in the second round with the Washington Redskins to take Lawrence, giving up their third-rounder.

His rookie season did not get started on time because of a broken foot in training camp. He did not record a sack in eight regular-season games and had just six quarterback pressures.

In the Cowboys' two playoff games, he had two sacks.

He clinched the win against the Detroit Lions with a sack of Matthew Stafford, but that came only after he mistakenly tried to run with the football after a sack and fumble of Stafford a few plays earlier.

The Cowboys believe Lawrence can be their biggest difference-maker in the pass rush in 2015.

"We were really disappointed he lost that time once he got hurt in training camp, lost that time in the early part of the season because they grow so much early on," Garrett said. "These practices and these preseason games are so valuable to these guys. They can really benefit from these reps maybe as much as anybody. I think when he came back we saw that. We saw him grow from practice to practice and week to week and by the end of the year, he was really making a lot of impact plays for us. That sequence in the Detroit game was really big for him. You think about: he knocked the ball out, recovers the fumble and gives it up and they get the ball back and then three or four plays later he makes the sack-fumble and then recovers it. That really wins the game for us. I think that shows what he's all about and what kind of young man he is. You talk about football character. Those are the kind of things we're looking for. We think the sky is the limit for him. We just got to get back to work getting ready for that, too."
