Surprising win ( and yes good also )

Didn't think this bunch had it in them to mount a come from behind rally in the bottom of the 9th against a very VERY good Rays team who has a top notch pitching staff ( including relievers ). Gotta tip your cap where / when its due.

Would like to see a replay of the Seager 9th inning at bat to see the infield defensive set up against him. Had I been mgr of the Rays I stack 4 infielders between 1st and 2nd as thats where 90% of his ground balls are hit. Have to keep the 3rd baseman at 3 bag to keep the lead runner honest with his lead. SS 2nd baseman and bring the left fielder all to between 1st and 2nd base equally spaced and playing close to cut the winning run down at home. How often does Seager lift a fly ball to left field ( very rarely ) and it would score the runner even if he did most likely, so the left fielder is useless in that situation.

Since I ragged on Shed Long the other day he has upped his avg around .075 points ( had very few at bats - so a few hits over a few games creates big uptick in numbers ) Still made contact and drove in the tying run on a tough borderline down and away pitch. Went with the pitch and weak liner to left vs trying to pull the ball ( Kelenic and Seagers clear weakness )

Likely the Ms only win vs Tampa as I expect a 3 game TB run Fri Sat Sun. Looking forward to seeing Gilbert on the bump Saturday. The Rays strength is their pitching staff ( not their lineup ) Would love to see Gilbert with a solid home performance to boost his confidence.

Agreed, but we are talking about the Mariners here so who knows. Owners are probably talking shit about Paxton being injured and having to pay him. Seems like something they'd do.

Does anyone know who makes the decision and/or how it is decided if Goldsmith or Simms is going to call a game with blowers? I don't see any particular patten so thought I'd just give it an ask.???

Well that was a breath of fresh air. Beating the shift, going the other way, looking for hitting zones and not just wildly hacking and praying.

Hitting is contagious - great way to start a game. Cannot say much about the other 8 innings except Kikuchi and the pen looked great.

Past 2 games are why the Ms are so frustrating to watch and cheer for. Every now and then everything clicks and they look like a legit MLB ballclub when facing a clearly superior opponent. Great 2 game opener to a 4 game series - The Rays strength is their pitching staff ( not their bats ). We got to them early and it was enough to win the game with a strong start from Kikuchi.

Really looking forward to Gilberts start tonite. I hope his command is as good as it was last start. He better feed Zunino a steady diet of off speed stuff then bust him up and in with the heater to ring him up.

Real curious as for attendance tonites game. Best weather of the year - weekend game - non marquis opponent - I don't think any silly giveaway bobbleheads or nonsense. Curious if they can get over 28K into The Safe with the current product they are pushing..
