Commanders coach Ron Rivera expects Antonio Gibson to be the team's primary kick returner this season.

"You still need to see some more stuff, but you know, I think he is," Rivera said. "I do. I think he's done a nice job.” This only furthers confusion over what exactly Gibson's 2022 usage is going to be. The Athletic's Ben Standig reported Tuesday that Gibson remains the "best bet" to lead Washington's backfield in touches, but that is not typically the kind of player you would expose to dangerous kick return reps. Gibson has also practiced with the punt team. Although there is still upside somewhere in the equation, Gibson is a highly-volatile RB2 option, one best treated as a risk/reward FLEX at this point.

You still think he is RB1?
At this point before playing any regular season games in 2022, YES, AG is our best option at RB right now.

It's football dean, be scared if you want but the game comes with risk ALL THE TIME! Our offense and defense needs more REAL work against an opponent period. Doesn't matter, they won't be in long.

useless risk. game doesnt mean anything

So our coach is putting our RB1 at KO. This is unprecedented. Never seen this before.

Not to mention that Robinson is not as experienced as people believe. He didn't start until his Super Senior year and was a career backup until then. He rushed for more yardage his Super Senior year than he did the previous 4 years combined. In other words, he was a 1-year wonder at Alabama.

The good news is that he should not have as much mileage as other elite college backs. The bad news is that he is 23 and only excelled in one year at college. Not saying he is Jamin Davis 2.0, but crowning Robinson as the starter and expecting him to be a difference maker is not prudent at this point. He needs experience and a lot more carries. Hopefully, he will get there; however, it will take more time than some are thinking.

Less then 15 preseason carries is all you need to see according to dean .

I saw that.

I talked to a good friend who is a Bama fan and he indicated Robinson projects as a good backup in the NFL. He said Robinson was never a threat to the other backs at Bama and only started after they all left. I think Robinson can be a good pro from what I have seen, but I think he needs more time to develop. The data clearly shows that. I prefer looking at the numbers instead of relying on faith and hope.

The team has a brand new QB, 2 WRs, RB, 2 guards .... not all will play but a few plays is a good idea IMO. It will probably be week 4 or 5 before this offense jells with so many new guys.

LMAO .... many football players have to sit for a year or two before getting to start. I think BRob will be valuable. I am sure being coached at Alabama didn't hurt at all.

I think this is what we will have to live with, to be honest. Wentz has not looked "horrible", but he hasn't looked great either. "Average" would be a good description. He has not been careless with the ball, but he hasn't really pushed it either. I am guessing some of this is the vanilla playcalling. There again, Baker Mayfield and especially Patrick Mahomes were successful in what appeared to be "vanilla" offenses.

That being said, the 3rd and 10 sack was unacceptable for a player with his experience. He has always had a reputation of holding on to the ball too long, so it was disappointing to see that habit show up so early in the preseason. At this point, the scouting reports and testimonials are pretty accurate. Despite all of his talent, he is his own worst enemy and struggles with his decision-making.

I believe he will be better than TH, but that isn't the goal, nor should it be what we aim for. We shouldn't hang our hat on simply finding an improvement over the prior poor player/coach. We should be looking for long-term effective answers as an organization, not a short-term upgrade. I believe Wentz will be an average QB for us and that we will need to move on next year. If Wentz still had untapped potential, if he was viewed as a long-term franchise QB in the NFL, and if he was viewed as a capable leader to lead an offense, we would NOT have been the only call the Colts got.

Given that our defense has several red flags at this time, as previously pointed out, we will need the offense to score a lot of points. The defense will cost us games and we will need to score. I don't think Wentz gets us that offensive boost we need. We will need elite QB play to mask the defensive issues in various games. Wentz is not an elite QB.

I cannot understand why Rivera is playing starters in Game 3. Again, he seems to be stubborn about things and this one is a head-scratcher. We like to slam Gruden, but Gruden had a winning season here in his 2nd season and had winning seasons in 2 of his first 3 years. Rivera has yet to secure a winning season here. I have no confidence in his decisions.

Hopefully, we will look back in a few years and this will be a low point for us in having Rivera and Wentz at the same time. I feel like Clark Griswold in "Christmas Vacation" when he tells Eddie "I can't believe you are actually standing in my living room". My version is: "I can't believe Carson Wentz is our starting QB for 2022".
I have stated that I was not a fan of the trade but Wentz is a clear upgrade from what we've had around here. If he flops that's gonna hurt considering we will most likely lose our 2nd next year.

That said, we will be in position to draft a QB in a QB rush draft. If Wentz balls out, we got our future QB for pennies on the dollar. That will allow us to use our 1st to draft a FS or a shutdown corner.

As far as the BLT game, I'm with you. Seeing what just happened in Dallas, I just want to get to the opener in one piece.

i dont like trading for a guy we could have gotten without giving up picks . the trade is my beef not wince the qb per se

much like the CDC trade , the mcnabb trade , the RG3 trade

being an upgrade from falco is not a measure i would be proud of

wince is a mid level qb i am OK with that but nor at the price

I think the question at this point is ... the team now appears to have weapons. What can they all do together? Hell if they can keep the defense off the field some and score a few more points a game that could be a good thing. Four more points on offense and four less points on defense would be an excellent thing.

I agree with you @skinsdad62. I think if we had been patient we could have gotten Wetnz for free. I have a feeling Ron's thought process was if Wetnz hits the open market there is no way in hell he chooses Washington.

I was a Smith backer as you know. All he did was win here, but it wasn't sexy enough for some. That said, I think Wents is an upgrade from Alex as well. With the WR room we have, he as no excuses. If he stinks it up, I will be the first in line to criticize him.

I was unfair to Smith and I admit that. I was wrong about him. I think the NFL owes him apology in a way as 49er, Chiefs, and Skins fans all hated the guy despite the fact that he won.

Same with Manti Teo....my gosh, that documentary was amazing. I feel awful for making jokes about him. I was dead wrong about him as well.

I have never been a Wentz fan period. I am sure he is a great person, but I think he was overrated coming out of college and it seems like there is always some kind of drama always surrounding him. I wish we would have signed Mariotta and drafted Pickett or Ridder and developed them. Just my opinion.
