Why? The numbers speak for themselves.

Kinda answered your own question in a way as Flacco's post season numbers on the way to that SB title spoke pretty loud as well.

And weren't the Ravens also a "just secure the damn ball and you're back in the SB" play away from their 2nd SB appearance in 3 years?

Majority of people outside of Maryland knew this was going to happen when he signed the contract. He was never as good as his contract indicated. Sure he had one of the best postseason stretches for any QB ever. I don't blame Baltimore for offering that deal. Flacco was homegrown, still fairly young, and the FO was full of confidence in him. And they absolutely COULD NOT let him walk. Signing him to that deal had to happen... And it forced them to ride it out.

Opinion: The Baltimore Ravens Have a Major Joe Flacco Problem

The Baltimore Ravens have a major Joe Flacco problem, even if they don't realize it or want to admit it. Since going on his four-game streak to win the Super Bowl after the 2012 season, and getting a big contract, Flacco has been among the worst regular starters in the NFL, and the Ravens have not won another playoff game.

Here's where he ranks among the 33 quarterbacks who have thrown at least 800 passes in the last five years:

-dead last in yards per attempt;

-dead last in touchdown pass percentage;

-dead last in touchdown to interception ratio;

-32nd in passer rating (ahead of only Blake Bortles);

-dead last in net yards per pass attempt;

-dead last in adjusted net yards per pass attempt.

Does this make Joe Flacco elite?

Last year, he averaged 5.7 yards per pass attempt. Let's put that in some perspective. Ryan Leaf's career yards per attempt was 5.6, and JaMarcus Russell's was 6.0.

Elite...Joe has never been elite. But I do think his FO has not really done him any favors since that SB win. WR, OL, RB have all been part of the reason for Flacco looking like an avg Joe if you ask me.

Both gambled, and the Flacco won...it's that simple.

I won't be surprised to see the Ravens make a major move at QB once Ozzie is gone next year....if Joe doesn't bounce back with a solid season in '18...the dead money is still steep in '19 but it won't be prohibitive.

calling @Oldschool739

Give me something stupid!!!!!

oldschool is far from stupid.

In fact he might have had sage advice along the lines of that in this case there is no use for the little blue pill that does win out over "flaccid".

And at the moment, even rhino horns and elephant tusk and bear penis as well a Viagra have no effect on "Flacco".....

Flacco just doesn't care anymore. I don't care what kind of lip service Joe pays the media and fans here in Baltimore, he's counting his money, and once he's cut or finishes the contract he is riding off into the sunset. At this point, I think Joe is only primarily concerned with not getting injured again - would explain the numerous inexplicable short passes last season when down, distance and situation called for him to push the ball down the field. He doesn't like holding the ball for too long anymore for fear of getting blown up.

If they don't want Flacco in 2018 they could bring in another cheap veteran to battle RG3 for the starting job and probably add a developmental rookie. I don't see them dropping Flacco though. I'd still rather have him at $12M than Manning, Tannehill, Dalton, and maybe 1 or 2 more on more expensive contracts.
If they were all on the same exact contract as Flacco, I'm taking each and every one of them in a heartbeat.

Joe must've nailed your old lady or something, your hatred for him is over the top, Private Pyle !!!!!
