Here in year 14 of my top 50 NBA player rankings, this marks the first time I am seeking suggestions from others...

Here is the 16: KAT, Siakam, Randle, LaVine, Simmons, Ingram, Middleton, Gobert, Jamal Marray, Devin Booker, Morant, Sabonis, Bam, Fox, Jrue Holiday, Jaylen Brown.

I don't know who I would even rank 16th of that group other than the injured Murray. Maybe Siakam 15th. Too difficult for me beyond that, I'll have to pass.

An era of Pacers basketball I'm not especially proud of. Sorry @tlance I got to say it - The day Stern handed out his suspensions for the brawl, he essentially outlawed physical, defensive-minded teams if favor of soft, star-driven teams... The Pacers in turn, built their teams during that era with a "scared" approach.

Let's not let this be the central premise of the thread, though. I actually had Siakam as high as #14 last year coming off a title. He figures to drop a significant amount this year, but by how much is a fair amount?

How does he stand in line with these other 15 guys?

He didn’t outlaw defensive minded teams.

What he outlawed was teams who thrived on making non-basketball plays.

And that should have always been a priority of the league.

A free flowing game where players get to showcase skill above brute strength is the way basketball is meant to be played.

What the Pistons did to the league and how the game was played is a travesty.

What he outlawed was teams who thrived on making non-basketball plays.

And that should have always been a priority of the league.

I gotta say that I completely disagree with the last statement. The Pistons of that era played solid defense, not non-basketball, dirty plays like the Bad Boy era or what Bruce Bowen did. It was still the end of the big man age and the advent of teams taking full advantage of the three pointer and the Pistons simply had great interior rotation defense with the two Wallaces to slow down teams. It was not a travesty, it was good basketball; just because you don't like watching defense doesn't mean it's dirty or bad.

I actually thought the exact same as you. It seemed bizarre because tlance really knows his shit when it comes to basketball. Glad he clarified.

If this was the same time last year I would have Middleton toward the middle of this list...but the performances he had in the playoffs and the way he stepped up, really impressed me. I could have him a little lower like 5 or 6 but I think 3 or 4 is deserving.

See, that is a pet peeve of mine.

1 hot stretch in the playoffs doesn’t change who the player is.

Middleton is a very good player. Deserving of being in the top half.

But 3 or 4 basically ignores who he has been for his entire career, IMO.

Same with Simmons, but on the other side.

While I agree if it is a ranking of entire careers, I believe @HurricaneDij39 does this rankings as a player ranking going into the each new season for the upcoming season. Their most recent playoff production would be much more relevant in that instance.
