I, unfortunately, did stay up to watch it and although they won, it was as painful to watch as Romeo and Rev described. Fielding miscues, base running miscues, and a lack of any offense... it was the kind of game that you're just glad is over with. The Rangers won because the Rays put in a relief pitcher who suffered from nerves and couldn't find the strike zone to save his life.

And I don't care what anyone else says- Elvis is NOT a leader and he is NOT worth that bloated contract. He's a mental midget. That at-bat with 1 out in the 14th was awful and not anywhere near the quality of a 120-Million $ player. I'm sick of seeing Elvis standing on the top of the dugout laughing and clowning around. I'm sick of his lackadaisical approach in the field (he bounced a throw to 1st on a routine grounder in extra innings). When you are performing nowhere near your contract amount and your team is in dead last in the majors, fans don't want to see you goofing off and booting routine plays.

Couldn't agree with you more. It's great for a player to enjoy the game, and get his teammates to play lose. But EA's approach is always the same, and frankly, it comes across as very cavalier to me.

Rosales made 2very good plays at first last night, and believe it or not JPA did same the previous night; or was that the night before? Anyway, your point is rock solid.

This doesn't make shit to shine-ola, but that fantastic catch by Jennings last night was rated as the 7th best play of the day on ESPN's top 10.

Ridiculous

This from ESPN's David Schoenfeld:

It's not easy getting recognition for your defense when you play in the same league as Andrelton Simmons and Troy Tulowitzki, but such is the fate of Cincinnati Reds shortstop Zack Cozart.

But when we look at the leaderboards in 2014 for defensive metrics, Cozart is leading the way (all statistics through Sunday):

Defensive Runs Saved
1. Cozart +20
2. Simmons +14
3. Jhonny Peralta +13
4. Jordy Mercer +9
5. Tulowitzki/Alexi Amarista +8

Ultimate Zone Rating
1. Cozart +12
2. Peralta +9.7
2. Erick Aybar +9.7
4. J.J. Hardy +9.4
5. Simmons +8.2

I have forever been against the judgment of body language. I think it's silly to act like we can know what it's a players mind from how they appear on the field. If Elvis was such a problem someone in the org would call him out on it. You don't have to be as intense as Beltre at all times to care. I love Beltre more for his lighthearted smiling and animated on field antics. It's what endears him to me as a fan.

First, I wouldn't and don't pretend to know what's in EA's mind.

Second, he was called out by Washington before the AS break, and RW has continued to point out EA's numerous mental lapses. Like running into the 2nd baseman and being ruled out. Wash wore his ass out on the pregame show the next night about that one.

Third, I find it silly you'd mention EA and Beltre in same sentence. Why? One has and does earn the right to conduct himself as such and one doesn't.

Elvis has been Ron's whipping boy since he came up in 2008. He's taken him to the woodshed publicly more than I can remember. He's treated Holland the same, but that doesn't mean either player doesn't care. It means that's how they learn and they can take it. That's one thing about Wash I have always liked. He doesn't use the same approach with all players.

I completely get being frustrated with his performance, but to rip him on his personality is petty.

I mention Beltre, because Adrian participates in the laughing and goofing around. It isn't about earning that as a player. The season is far too long and tiresome to be serious all the time.

A lot of this reminds me of the crap fans would say about Romo wearing his hat backward on the sideline. Just let the dude be himself.

Points taken. And I'm all for letting men be men and expressing themselves "individually." Seriously, I find it absurd some want to make these athletes so cookie cuttered.

However, my problem with EA's body language and the comparison between him and AB is regardless of how Beltre approaches each individual game, you know when he's in the batters box or between the lines, he's focused. The same is not true for EA. And it mightily shows.

Therefore, when I see Elvis fucking off in the dugout, acting if he doesn't have a care in the world, it bothers me immensely.

And I can't help but notice ever since he signed that bloated contract he's regressed in damn near every phase of the game.

Luckily from a value standpoint, Elvis is only earning 6.5 million this year and he's done enough to exceed that value, around 8 million in value,

Next year will be when the 15 million a year contract starts, we'll see if he earns those dollars

Didnt I hear there was also a negative perception around the league which makes it difficult to even trade him. Not positive on this so just asking.

Yikes, don't see a 15 mill value happening. Otherwise I would hope to see it now.

His bat speed is not good enough, and I wish so much he could get better at hitting more consistently...I just don't know if it will ever happen now. At least he can still play defense....

Get him some PEDs. I would take 112 games of roided Elvis ripping the cover off the ball.

On another note, Leonys Martin (1.6) has been our second most valuable position player (behind Beltre @ 3.8) by WAR, a tick ahead of Andrus and Chirinos (both at 1.5)

Out of guys still starting for us Darvish at 4.2, Lewis at 1.5, and Tepesch at 0.5 and Mikolas at 0.4 and Nick Martinez at -0.1, even Baker has come in at a 0.5 clip

Relievers with Cotts at 1.0, and basically everyone else in the 0.1 to -0.1 range

Really likes Poreda, but really dislikes Tolleson despite their actual results

Unfortunately, our luck is "potentially" very bad in this situation.

Your value analysis is correct. And this is what made JD/Nolan and company think he was worth investing ONE HUNDRED AND EIGHTEEN MILLIONS DOLLARS in him.

It appears, this may have been a colossal miscalculation on our part. And for whatever this is worth, I was 100% on board with the commitment made. So when the bodies get thrown in the sea, I gotta be one of em.

 on me

I know I'm probably beating this point to death. But his defense concerns me "actually" more than his offense.
His lack of concentration in the field is alarming, taking last night as the rule of thumb. And it is.

A great fielding, singles hitter with his head-in-the-game SS I'm in love with. Unfortunately today, that person and Elvis Andrus are not same-same.

I've never responded twice to the same post - best of my recollection anyway - but I got a good belly laugh outta this.

Thanks

Should've always been around 10-12 million AAV, not 15, 8 years and 80, 88 or 96 million looks a lot better than 8 and 118

If he gets his head out of his ass there's still a chance he makes it close in matching value and compensation, especially with an uptick on defense

I'm not understanding what you're saying; little confused anyway.

Help me out a little

Andrus should have never made more than 10-12 million annually on that contract which would've put it at 8 years and 80 million, 88 million or 96 million, instead he got a tick below 15 million per year putting it at 8 years 118 million instead

12 million a year would've been a slight overpay but one that he could've attained most years of the contract, provided he play good defense throughout

AAV = Average Annual Value
