he's got plus command sure, but it doesnt mean SHIT as a STARTER if you cant get past the lineup more than twice. Not shit.

I still think that makes him better than an average AA starter, probably better than an average AAA starter

He might be a AAAA pitcher in the long run, but what you're claiming is beyond foolish

I think he's a couple changes away from being a league #5 at the very least, I might be wrong on that but at the same time he's not far off from that

Right but that is a far cry from you claiming he would only be a plus AA starter. MLB hitters are lot better than AA hitters, so it's natural he would struggle the third time through with actual hitters facing him.

so average AAA? Point is, he's not and wont ever be a good major league starter. MAYBE a number 5, more likely a long reliever/ spot starter/ AAA starter. Either way he isnt good enough right now to pitch at the big league level. 2 average pitches and 1 minus pitch isnt good enough to get it done. No matter who you face, these hitters make adjustments EVERY PITCH. In the minor leagues, its every couple of pitches. In the bigs, its every pitch. So naturally, twice through the order after they've seen his stuff, he isn't going to be effective with a fucking 89mph fastball

Not claiming he could turn into a Cliff Lee, but I am sure people said that about him too. If he were downright garbage I think you would have more of an agreement from me, but he has a good foundation to work upon.

Just sort of said the same thing. Adding a pitch doesnt happen overnight however. Neither does getting a plus pitch. The kid turns 26 in 2 months. He's done growing. His fastball is done. Which means his curve ball is done as far as sharpness and bite. The only thing that can get better is his command of it. The straight change up is minus, but even then its a "feel" pitch. You ask 10 pitchers how they throw it you get 10 different answers. He doesnt have a feel for it. Until he does, this is what you get guys. This is it. He'll have days he commands more than others, but even then he wont have days where he has good stuff. Because he doesnt.

It'd be different if he was Luke Jackson and had great stuff. Then, he could get away with having no command on some days. Or he could get through the lineup 3 times. But he doesnt. If he has good command, he'll give you 6 innings. If he doesnt, he'll go less than 5.

6-1 with a 1.58 era at RR is better than an avg AA starter.

impossible to tell. people pitch better/worse at different levels. some dudes go up and hit/pitch better in AAA. All I know is, he isnt a major league starter. He's not good enough to pitch at this level. He needs to develop either a 3rd pitch or magically get more life... which doesnt happen for 25 year olds.

It should be noted he's gone 6 innings and has given up 4 hits through 6. This is pretty good in most everyone's line.

I do see him at the very least being a very good long relief man, and spot starter. He seems to do quite well for the first 2 times through the lineup.

And ya know, if we scored 3/4 runs you wouldn't be burying his ass in AA IMO.

Molina runs back to the dugout just as fast as he runs to first. Don't see that too often. :)

But to say he never will figure it out is beyond stupid, all the parts he needs to figure out are things done with time not physical things

I could see him sharpening up the curve and the changeup, his fastball isn't huge but it has good movement, he just needs to figure out how to make it goes where he wants it

Once again these are all feel things and its just taking him longer than some would like

I even admit if he doesn't then yeah he's a spot/AAAA starter/long reliever but that's still > average AA starter

My complaint earlier. If we score some runs this is a well pitched game.
