The thing is, Hamilton would now be ours for the rest of this season and the next two. Injuries are a concern as well as production. We're going to get into this cycle of DH rotation of Prince/Choo/JH, which is great for them, but it sucks for the other 3 players who won't get consistent playing time.

I really don't see why Texas does this trade. Yeah, we're getting an $83m contract for $15m. We're not getting an $83m player, though.

MLB has been kind to Josh lately. I know in the Vernon Wells trade to the Yankees the Angels received 2 class A players.

Even as he has struggled with the Angels the past two seasons, Hamilton still has hit well in Texas. In 70 plate appearances at Globe Life Park since 2013, he has hit .339 (21-of-62). Only Seattle Mariners second baseman Kyle Seager (.395) has posted a better average there over that span.

The Rangers, meanwhile, could use outfield help.

Their outfield ranks 29th and 28th this season in batting average (.194) and OPS (.576), respectively, entering Friday night.

I was as upset with Josh Hamilton as anyone at the end of his stay here with the Rangers. But for some reason I am okay with what is happening here. I am hoping with all that has happened to him lately maybe the humble pie he is eating now will be a kick in the tail to get him going. But of course as with many on our team if he is able to stay healthy.
