I'm not disagreeing with you. It's just become evident he's going to be in the lineup, so if he can produce, all the better.

Wasn't snark, I'm also hoping its a start, but I feel this surge he's had lately just might convince Banny to keep him in there longer than he should again, 5 productive games in a row will convince him to allow Fielder to suck the soul out of the offense for 3 weeks past the time for a move

Just saw the score and to say the least I was shocked. Nice comeback. And sounds like Nick did a great job.

Nick did a good job. He's been working on that change a lot down at RR and used it well last night.

Honestly don't think there is any way to measure, or even quantify "stressful pitches." One of those things, a manager/pitcher can evaluate it without actually having any type of scale.

Probably should have separated my thoughts on this. B/c I really wasn't referring to Perez's 12 pitches as stressful. Pretty hard to be under duress when you only throw 12.

I think it gets into the idea of a pitcher starting to overthrow or add a little extra to a pitch (Verlander used to be really good at this, and I think you showed a graphic of Sadzeck doing this in the 7th the other day), IF Perez gives up a leadoff single and then decides to put a little extra on his pitches afterwards and proceeds to give up 2 IF singles, that's 2 "stressed" pitches, b/c he was reaching back, even if the result was not a hard hit ball

Then all of a sudden, bases are loaded and he really needs a strikeout and starts throwing a usually 93 MPH fastball at 95 or 96, then he gets a DP on 6 pitches, but there's still runners on 2nd and 3rd, but 2 outs, Perez would still be trying to get this guy out with his best stuff to prevent a run, and he strikes out the next batter on 4 pitches, he only threw 13 pitches, but for 10-12 of them he was reaching back for a little extra... so the stress on his arm might be closer to the equivalent of 18-20 pitches.... like I said, I don't actually know how they factor in everything

Best explanation I can come up with

Saw Martinez on the mound, didn't get to see him actually pitch, but glad his changeup looked good, hopefully it can become a K pitch for him when he gets 2 strikes on people, that's been his biggest problem so far, finishing off hitters when he has the advantage

Agreed. Hope his new found K rate translates to big league hitters.

His K-Rate in AAA wasn't much higher than it was last year, 5.91 in AAA, 5.54 in the majors last year, it's the walks I hope he's found a way to curtail, 3.31 BB/9 last season, and 1.55 in AAA this year, hopefully all this translates

Always good to be going into the final game knowing the worst we can do is a split.

Of course, a win would be even sweeter.

Like I said. If you'd told me we'd split this series id be all over that. Now, as long as we give our key bullpen guys a rest today I don't really care whether we win or lose, or how bad the score is.

Phillies’ Alec Asher Receives 80-Game PED Suspension

By Steve Adams | June 16, 2016 at 12:10pm CDT

Phillies right-hander Alec Asher, who has spent most of the season with the club’s Triple-A affiliate, has been suspended 80 games for after testing positive for a testosterone-related performance enhancing drug, reports Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times (via Twitter). The specific substance in question, Shaikin adds (Twitter link), is Dehydrochlormethyltestosterone — the same substance for which Blue Jays first baseman Chris Colabello and Phillies reliever Daniel Stumpf each tested positive earlier this season.

Asher, 24, was acquired by the Phillies alongside Jerad Eickhoff, Jorge Alfaro, Nick Williams and Jake Thompson in exchange for Cole Hamels and Jake Diekman in last July’s blockbuster trade with the Rangers. He made seven starts for the Phillies in 2015 but struggled, allowing 30 runs in 29 innings of work. This season, he’s posted a 2.30 ERA with 5.8 K/9 against 1.2 BB/9 in 54 2/3 innings of work between the team’s Double-A and Triple-A affiliates, though he’s been on the minor league disabled list since mid-May.

Asher currently rates 26th among Phillies farmhands, per Jim Callis and Jonathan Mayo of MLB.com. He didn’t crack Baseball America’s offseason top 30, and ESPN’s Keith Law noted (Insider subscription required) that Asher profiled as a reliever when looking at the Phillies’ top prospects prior to the season. Callis and Mayo note that his ceiling is that of a back-of-the-rotation starter thanks to solid control, a low-90s fastball that can touch 95-96 and a pair of potentially average (but currently inconsistent) secondary offerings.
