And that is your opinion but the numbers dont back it up. Numbers say they are the same player.

It is my opinion, yes, but for what Del Zotto could be and actually is, was becoming less and less value to us. It was time we moved on from him.

Johnny, I have a question. Do you really think Del Zotto will be getting $5 million per year? I think the very fact he was traded for Kevin Klein (no offense to Kevin Klein) says his market value is far below that at the present time. He will have to really up his game to get for $5 million per year.

And I agree I still think we got robbed on the deal and should have aimmed hirer then just getting any right handed defenseman

He is 23 going into his RFA years with arbirtration rights. Before he signed his deal he had now, he wanted over 3M per. It's no secret he will command at least 4M+ in his next contract. He will get it, but he's not worth it.

Klein is on a great contract for the time on ice he logs a night and the things he does. It will benefit us in the long run when we can re-sign Girardi.

I think $4 million is reasonable, maybe $4.5 million tops. I agree that Klein has a better contract than the one Del Zotto will get.

Fitting in is nice but I wasn't really interested in why he fits in, I want to know why you think that he adds value.

A defensemen who can consistently give us 19-22 minutes a night is something Del Zotto could never be or most likely will never be. Klein on the other hand, can provide us with that and has in the past with Nashville. Also gives us another shutdown right handed defensemen that we lacked behind Girardi. Also will help Moore's game by letting him play the offensive side of his game a bit better knowing that he has a safety blanket in Klein to protect him.

That's what i'm thinking as well. He's not worth it, that's too much for a guy who has hit 40 points once in his career and has completely fallen off since his rookie season of 37 points.

I think we're sort of overanalyzing this. This is basically what it comes down to.

Michael Del Zotto's trade value plummeted drastically this season. Rangers had no place for him on the team. The relationship between him & the Rangers became toxic especially with the upcoming contract situation. Rangers needed a stay at home dman for AV's system. Viola!

I think we need to sit back and just see how things develop. At first glance, Preds will probably win this trade in the long term if they could re-sign Del Zotto for less than $5 million. At the same time, Klein does bring a sense of balance to the Rangers' blue line. I don't think this trade will have a major impact for either team, but it could improve both teams slightly. If it doesn't work out for either team, no big loss either. Preds could always let Del Zotto go and Klein is only a $2.9 million cap hit.

Nothing like a shutdown defenseman that can't play against top lines and doesn't actually shut anybody down. Hell, I just described Tim Gleason, and he didn't cost an asset like Del Zotto.

With Klein on the ice this year: 0.796 Goals Against/20 minutes

With Del Zotto on the ice this year: 0.713 GA/20 minutes

In Toronto we call this "The Grabovski Plan". Didn't work out so well for the Leafs

We can go back and forth all day, I like the trade, you don't. Let's just let the play on the ice speak.

True, I do see similarities between this and how the Leafs handled Grabovski.

And MacArthur. Really it probably should be called "The Randy Plan" since he did it to Lupul in Anaheim too.

Don't worry, my Pens are sort of doing that to Simon Despres IMO. I think we could all relate some.

Speaking of Ottawa, no talk about Matt Moulson?
