Kevin Kline was in Nashville and then he was out - You could say

Dash - it's a little scary that before reading through the whole thread I had already thought of and google-searched the same image you posted above.

What's the saying - age/stress-addled minds think alike? ;)

I think folks are selling Klein short here. He's a pretty solid top 4 D. This deal is a future for now type deal.

Is there anything objective to look at that shows this? I don't watch Nashville that often.

I guess I went a little too far back in the wayback machine with the big chill reference, eloco :)

It depends on who Sather would be giving up. McPhee gave up Filip Forsberg for him. Would Slats give up JT Miller?

At this point Washington might just give Etat away to get him off the team.

Thank you.

Nobody seems to understand the business aspect of the game either, rather than just base this deal on potential and people who don't watch MDZ 82 games a season like myself. The guy shows no heart, has a lack of effort, shows no hustle, and stop blaming AV. Torts wanted him out as well, yeah he's just 23 years old, but he'll never reach his ''potential'' here. His rookie year he put up 37 points and completely tanked it since then.

He could have been a top puck moving PP-QB, but he's not. McDonagh and Girardi have actually taken over at that, neither of which are offensive minded defensemen like Del Zotto. The Rangers win this deal in the business aspect of it, Klein is signed for 4.5 more years at 2.9M a season. DZ is a pending RFA with arbitrary rights and will likely command at least a 4 year deal around 4M+ per season. Something he would not get here.

Klein will fit in just well here and is also a safety blanket if Girardi commands top dollar and walks at the end of the season.

Except Klein is nothing special either if you wanted an average d-man that is right handed I'm sure you could have gotten one without giving up DZ. Also our biggest need is lack of offense which now has gotten worst because Klein doesn't put up points.

Who knows, maybe this trade works out for the Rangers somehow. I personally think MDZ has way more upsides than Kevin Klein tho, especially in the long term. I would've held out for a better offer if I were the Rangers.

Neither does Del Zotto really

I'd rather have someone better defensively.

Worst Corsi on Nashville's blue line and would be the worst on New York's too.

Like I said, I'm willing to believe that Klein doesn't stink but what should I be looking at that would show me this?

I think Klein's underrated...but the stats are sorta, kinda, awful. Nashville probably wins this trade, especially if a change of scenery/less pressure/new system restarts DZ. However, I don't think Klein is chump change.
