I don't know if he's even in the rotation after Yu comes back. Seems pricey to me for a guy that has an ERA close to 4.5. I'm hoping Chi Chi keeps progressing and becomes our 5th starter next year.

Here's part of my take on why Colby is damn near a must for us in 2016: Innings.

For 2016, we shouldn't count on Perez, or Darvis for a substantial number of innings. And although I loved what I saw outta Holland just yesterday, I'm "waiting and seeing" on him too.

Chi-Chi has had his moments, but like some wise person said on here seasons ago, "Ya gotta have 10 starters before the season is said and done." Or something like that. haha So leave him at AAA and his time will come. Might come sooner than later too.

And I'm going to talk out of both-sides-of-my-mouth here b/c I'm on record with, "anyone/everyone is trade-able and baseball is a business." But without Colby's contributions this season, there wouldn't be much of a season to be chatting about, IMO. And he's played cheap. Really cheap. So I'm all for rewarding a true trooper, who has shown leadership on/off the mound, and show our younger players, "we're willing to suck it up and reward this behavior."

It's a good message to send throughout the organization. In fact, it's a good message to send throughout baseball.

Did you happen to hear the interview with Colby yesterday? The subject of "longer term contract" was approached.

He flat out stated, again, he wants to stay right here. But he stopped short of saying he "wouldn't respond to a multi-year" contract offer though.

I've got my ideas on what we should do going forward. Batted ideas around with some fans yesterday in the stands. And I'd like to hear from some of you guys on how much/how long for Colby?
I wouldn't mind bringing him back for a year. I was against it up until when we traded away three candidates for next year's rotation to get Hamels.

Bottom line is we will have to have him unless there are other targets landed in FA. We all know the rotation will not stay healthy all year long and the options in RR NMart and Chi Chi need to improve before they are ready for the rotation. As far as worrying about Colby's ERA, as some here have, I wouldn't too much. We know he always has those few, real clunkers throughout the year that skew it.

Like I mentioned earlier, he's a back-end workhorse who will give you 180-200 IP. They generally have ERA's north of 4.00. There is nothing wrong with that.

I was ready to go with with Nick, Matt, and/or Chi Chi next year, but with the thought that Thompson and Eickhoff were there to back them up if they faltered or got hurt. Now we have no safety net so I think Nick and Chi Chi have to be our safety net. I would not bring in Colby for more than a year at a time though. That being said, I would not be surprised if both Chi Chi and Colby were in the rotation all year long next season to see Chi Chi finish up with the better numbers of the two. I also wouldn't put it past Nick to put in the work and study in the offseason to put himself into that same category. If we weren't able to get Colby next season and we had to use Chi Chi instead I am not sure that we wouldn't be better off.

Gee.....I forgot it was an early game.

I logged off earlier b/c I thought/think Lewis was being disrespected and rather than get into it, I departed for "Adult-beverage-ville." Ha

And just as soon as I log on, Choo gets squeezed on a pitch 3/5 inched high. WTF is up with this?

For the record, I'm a Lewis fan. How can I not be. 13 team wins with him on the mound.

Lotsa pitches here, Perez... get out of this.

This is to be expected from a guy coming off the surgery.

This guy made me a fan, big-time, over the last few years.

Is Ausmus a complete idiot. Even if he challenges it there is still the force out at 2nd so either way there are 2 outs and runners on 1st and 3rd.
