Our beloved Rangers travel to east coast bias central for a weekend set in the Big Apple. The boys from Texas appear to have righted the ship, going 8-5 in their last 13 games and currently on a 4 game winning streak. They sit at 10-14 overall, and in 4th place.

Unfortunately, the schedule brings them to NY, who own the best record in baseball at 18-7, and recently ended a double digit win streak. Throwing a baseball in the direction of Yankee batters this series will be Otto (6), Dunning (12), and Gray (12:30). This will be a big test for Otto and Dunning, and it's nice to see Gray able to have two starts in a row without a trip to the IL in between.

Semien appears to be heating up, and El Bombi has a habit of showing up when the lights are on him. The Rangers will need a strong showing from the offense this weekend, so obviously you can expect Kole Calhoun to get a ton of AB in a prime lineup slot.

Collegebaseball.info has come out with their top 100 college players for the upcoming draft. Here is the top 10 and a link to the story.

1. Brooks Lee, SS, Cal Poly

2. Kevin Parada, C, Georgia Tech

3. Gavin Cross, OF, Virginia Tech

4. Jace Jung, 2B, Texas Tech

5. Chase DeLauter, OF, James Madison

6. Daniel Susac, C, Arizona

7. Jordan Beck, OF, Tennessee

8. Jacob Berry, 3B/OF, LSU

9. Dylan Beavers, OF, Cal Berkeley

10. Jud Fabian, OF, Florida

The guy I am hoping for the Rangers to be able to get at pick #109 comes in at #90 on this list. That would be Ivan Melendez, the 1B from UT.

You can count on Kole.

In the minors, Alexy, Bradford, and White all pitch this evening.

It has been awhile since we have heard a lot of good news from our top pitching prospects. This would be a great time to get that back on track. Maybe tomorrow night Mr. Leiter will have a great start as well

Interested in Alexy. Not sure why but have thought he would follow in line with Leiter.

Banny would unleash odor on the Yankees and tell him to hit some stink bombs.

Here's each team's best pure hitting prospect

Rangers: Josh Jung (No. 2, MLB No. 28)
The Rangers expected that the No. 8 overall pick in the 2019 Draft would be their starting third baseman by now, but the Texas Tech prospect lost 2020 to the pandemic shutdown, missed the start of last year with a stress fracture in his left foot and will not see much action this season after tearing the labrum in his left shoulder while lifting weights in February. When healthy, he has shown the advanced bat-to-ball skills, pitch recognition and plate discipline that made him a first-rounder, posting a .322/.394/.538 line while reaching Triple-A.

Part of Scott Lucas' report.

Spencer Howard was a late scratch for reasons unknown to me. Maybe it's out there, but I've been out of pocket. Kohei Arihara took his place and couldn't escape the 1st inning.

Not to bag on Foscue's defense, but his future largely runs through his bat, so keep it up, Justin. And, like a good many Texas prospects, he's facing a position change if he's going to be a starter with the Rangers. Left field is just sitting there, waiting for someone to claim it.

CF Aaron Zavala: 3-3, 2 BB, SB (6), .250/.449/.333
2B Frainyer Chavez: 1-2, 3B, SB (2), .357/.460/.429
LF Trevor Hauver: 2-5, .183/.365/.250

Once again, not to suggest Aaron Zavala already needs to be in AA, but I'm more-or-less waiting until then to see what he can do. Or put another way, the swinging part of his bat needs to be at this level (some more power would be nice), but his zone control is "too good," especially with so many pitchers lacking control. His 23 walks lead high-A and are second in all of minor league ball. Trevor Hauver's line continues to be Zavala Lite.

It was a bad trade, but there have been several that were worse.
