The three prospects we traded for Lowe have OPS of .814, .945 and .945 so far this year. Those three are in the same league as our Hickory team. Our Hickory team only has one guy, Evan Carter, who has a higher OPS than even the worst of those three. Carter is at .890.

Taveras was actually switched out in the 4th. I think the 5th inning switches were a result of our second baseman getting hit by a pitch in the top half of that inning.

If all you have to go on are those stats then that is all you can do. However, I didn't wait until now to condemn the trade. I did that when we made it. It simply made no sense at the time and it still doesn't. That is the type of trade you make when you are desperate for a 1B when you are a serious contender.

If we can praise the front office for drafting Evan Carter, then we can surely use guys at the same level to condemn a trade.

Whether any of those three pan out or not, we gave up too much for Lowe. Hindsight, in 3 to 5 years, will probably bear that out, but a trade needs to be evaluated when it is made based on value given vs. value received. We gave up too much value for Lowe when we made the trade.

This organization has done some wonderful things in this rebuilding process. It is incredible to think how much better it could be with three differences.

1. No Nathaniel Lowe trade
2. Better drafting in rounds 2 through 4 last year
3. Making a better trade involving Gibson and Ian Kennedy

You cannot expect everything to go right though, and a lot of other things have gone right.
