More from Shawn McFarland:

Nathan Eovaldi just reached 98.4 mph to induced an inning-ending flyout in the second. That's the fastest pitch he's thrown this season.

His second-fastest? 98.2 mph, which he reached to strikeout Gio Urshala for the inning's first out.

From Jeff Wilson:

Johnny Cueto will not pitch for the Rangers this week, but the right-hander is not expected to exercise the out clause in this minor-league contract.

The sides have talked about pushing Cueto’s out back a few more weeks so that the Rangers can continue to evaluate him at Triple A Round Rock, general manager Chris Young said.

Cueto was selected Monday as the Pacific Coast League Pitcher of the Week after tossing six scoreless innings Thursday. He said that his pitches were moving the way he wanted, and he hoped the start would be enough to convince the Rangers to promote him this week.

Instead, the Rangers want to see if Cueto can repeat his performance while also building up more arm strength.

In the meantime, though, the Rangers’ injured starters are getting healthier, and the healthy arms continue to pitch well. Rangers starters entered Monday having allowed three earned runs or fewer in 15 consecutive games, and three of the past four posted scoreless outings.

Even if Cueto continues to impress, the Rangers might not have a spot for him in their rotation.

Every curve ball by Eovaldi had been a hanger tonight. But most have missed the strike zone. Might want to put that pitch away tonight.

And gives up a HR to Rogers.

More from Jeff Wilson:

Right-handers Jon Gray (groin) and Max Scherzer (nerve) did not throw live batting practice Monday, but Gray threw a bullpen session and participated in pitchers fielding practice.

He said the PFP work was the last box he needed to check before the Rangers would consider reinstating him from the injured list. He expects that to happen next week after he simulates three innings later this week in lieu of going on a rehab assignment.

Scherzer has been throwing bullpen sessions as he returns from a nerve issue that ended his rehab assignment after only one start more than a month ago. He spent the past month attempting to determine the source of the pain he was feeling in his thumb, wrist and forearm, and the eventual diagnosis was a nerve issue.

He received an injection of cortisone and Botox in his shoulder to help calm the nerve.

While Gray does not need a rehab assignment, Scherzer will. He might also need more than one session of live BP before the Rangers would send him out.

I’m guessing his FIP was a lot higher than his ERA so they want to make sure his low ERA is not just from luck.

Grossman looked at three pitches down the middle and did't swing the bat. I would rather have Lowe.

The rotation has been absolutely nails this year. I really think that once guys like Gray, Bradford, Scherzer(?) and Mahle come back, the bullpen is going to suddenly become very deep and talented, as well. Until then, we just need the bats to continue to come alive so Texas can hopefully weather the storm just a little bit longer. Maybe even catch up to the Mariners, who I believe will prove to be fools' gold.

Grossman has no business batting 3rd.

And why in the world did Langford and Smith strikeout looking on 3-2 counts back to back with two on?

What a bad call. This umpire must have gone to the Angel Hernandez umpiring school.
