Would like to see them slow-play his return and just try to get him maybe 2-3 big league starts before the playoffs
Heaney would love that as that most likely means he gets the extra $7 million next year.

I know I looked at sporran and instead of deleting the post I amended it.
Is it his fault that he and the Rangers agreed to a 2-year contract and they added that provision was added? I don’t think it should have been added but the Rangers obviously thought it was fair or they wouldn’t have done it. It’s not his fault

Who said it was his fault?

Everyone seems to think the team should bury him out in the pen to prevent him from reaching 150 innings like it’s his fault that the team agreed to the contract.

He’s still going to start next season along with Eovaldi, Scherzer, Dunning & Gray unless they’re going to pay him $13M or $20M to sit in the pen

First of all I don't think it's a guarantee he starts even though $20 million makes it harder for him to be in the pen as I would hope we pick up another pitcher and 2nd I know I don't want him making $20 million because he's not worth it but never did I say it is his fault.

What do we do with him? He’s going to get paid by the Rangers whether he starts or not and I doubt they’re going release him and based on everything most are saying I doubt they’ll be able to trade him

And no I don’t think he’s worth 20M

If they sign Montgomery to an extension like they should, there won't be a spot in the rotation for Heaney next year, barring injury. So he'll likely be an overpaid reliever/fill in starter.

So you agree. Nothing about it being his fault.

The financial side of that is definitely undesirable, but I'd rather make extra sure Eovaldi is healthy for the playoffs, even if that means the team is on the hook for more money to Heaney.
If a healthy Eovaldi helps them win a WS, the situation with Heaney won't matter much.

So there again is my point he’s going to be on the team next season no matter what unless they can find some team to take him and 6 to 8 M depending on if it’s 13 or 20M

We have been mentioning him going to the pen long before the contract part of it ever was mentioned on here.

He would be put in the pen only because he is our sixth best starter in a five man rotation.

It was discussed long ago and intermittently since then when he goes into times of iineffectiveness.

He is no guarantee to be here next year. He has an option.

You’re right there is a player option for 2024 for 2024. He could chose to move on
