Given health I think he could very well be our 4th best starting pitcher next year once Yu is back to normal which I expect him to be by June at the latest. I would not be surprised at all if both Derek and Martin have better seasons than Cole next year.

I hope you're 100% correct, and here's why. If Hamels is our 4th best starter, I fully expect us to be in the WS next season.

Not kidding.

I heard this today along with the fact that we're like 27th in ERA since the break. That has to change if we're going to do this thing.
Unfortunately, I think both the pitching and the hitting will change from what it has been post-ASB. While I think the pitching will improve, I don't think the hitters will keep hitting this way.

I was never worried about our 2016 pitching even before we acquired Cole. I am still concerned about our 2016 hitting though.

Only mentioned DDJ to a COF spot because I've been reading that Bannister thinks LF is his more natural position and he is being used in CF only because we have Hamilton and Choo in the corners. Now if we could trade Choo in the off-season and move Hamilton to RF he could move DDJ to Left if he had someone to put in center. Just a thought

Choo's end of the year value won't be that great, and honestly I think we need him next year. Hamilton can't stay on the field so there's no way I'm counting on him.

That was awesome when they did that. One-off spontaneous stuff like this is what keeps it fun and what adds to the greatness of the game. It's the non-stop every-day goofball act that wears thin with me.

I agree. And ya know a guy who I always complained about with an inflated average? Al Oliver.

It seemed to me Al hit .360 with no one on base, or we were ahead/behind by 5. Then hit .270 with RISP, or late in the game.

And I tried to send you a conversation awhile ago and got, "YOU can't send Ephland a conversation." Am I on your shit-list or something?

Don't talk shit about Al, he was one of my childhood heros.:suds:

You shouldn't be - I'm not sure I even have a shit list.

Looks like no one can send Conversations to you, you have them disabled for everyone

I'd say that's a very real possibility, but we'll see.

Why? The team won last night. That is all that counts. W and L's regarding pitchers is purely non-sense. Any pitcher that can keep you in the game long enough and turning it over to BP has done the job.

Why? Because the Rangers didn't pay dude all that coin to " just keep them in the game." They paid the coin for the hired gunslinger to go 8 innings, and WIN. They signed him to take the stress off the bullpen.
Heck, there are a ton of average pitchers who can just "keep us in the game".

I just checked my settings (to the best of my ability, mind you) and I don't see any reason for why that didn't come through.

Up near the top right you can click on your name which drops down some options, choose Privacy. Scroll down and click the link "Edit your Contact Details". Check the box labeled " Accept conversations from..." and make sure the drop down says Members Only and not People You Follow Only.

Really? That's weird then. Maybe you set that after he had tried? I can try to start a convo with you, but I think I can start one with anyone no matter your settings

It's just three starts, and how much payroll do you think they added to acquire him? If you were expecting Clayton Kershaw, your hopes were set too high. He'll need a little time to adjust.

They paid the coin for the hired gunslinger to go 8 innings, and WIN.

While that is true, it's not telling the whole story.

Remember when we brought in Cliff Lee in 2010? After the first several weeks, I think his ERA was north of 8.00. He settled into a groove, and he was one of (if not the biggest) reason we got past the Rays in the ALDS.

Hamels - same thing. Hamels was brought in to be an October pitcher.
