This excuse is so lame.

CY sure seemed to convince Bochy, Maddux, Ray Davis, deGrom, and Eovaldi that the team was going to be competitive.

“The fans have got to be as upset as I am,” Davis said. “I’m not a good loser. And all I can say to the fans is we’re treating it with a sense of urgency. That’s why we made a couple of moves this week. And we plan on putting a very competitive team on the field next year.” 8-17-2022

Lol. I had a guy on Twitter just tell me that when Davis said "very competitive " he meant finish around .500. Now, that's rich.

Frim Jeff Wilson:

Among those who are expected to be playing this offseason are two Round Rock right-handers on the 40-man roster, Cole Winn and Zak Kent.

The Rangers want to give Winn, their 2018 first-rounder, a different experience after logging two rough seasons at Round Rock. They are curious to see how he fares with human umpires after struggling at times with the automatic ball-strike system in Triple A.

Where Winn might pitch is still pending.

Kent will continue pitching after missing ample time this season with an oblique injury. He is one of eight Rangers who will be in the Arizona Fall League, and he will be a priority starter who logs up to five innings a start.

Left-hander Mitch Bratt and righty Emilano Teodo, who both missed time at High A Hickory, will pitch in relief but carry a starter’s workload with appearances that span two to five innings.

From Jeff Wilson:

First baseman Blaine Crim was selected as the winner of the True Ranger Award, given annually to the minor-leaguer who best exemplifies the spirit and character the Rangers want from their players.

He did so while spending all season at Triple A Round Rock following a second straight appearance at big-league spring training. He batted .289 with 22 home runs, 31 doubles and an .891 OPS, and he has career .888 OPS in 1,639 career at-bats.

Crim is a hitting machine, and the Rangers believe he’s going to hit in the majors after he made a few swing tweaks this season.

“He is a major-league player,” Fenstermaker said.

Crim will be eligible for the Rule 5 draft this offseason and would be available to any team if he isn’t added to the 40-man roster. He isn’t eligible for minor-league free agency until after next season, so he will stay in the organization if he clears the Rule 5 draft and isn’t traded.

He is headed to the Dominican Winter League to play for Escogido after playing in Puerto Rico the past two offseasons.

“He will play in the major leagues for somebody, and my hope is that it’s here,” Fenstermaker said. “He has checked a lot of boxes along the way, and I think he’d be ready for an opportunity if it presented itself.”

That opportunity could come next season at designated hitter if the Rangers don’t re-sign Mitch Garver. Crim and Justin Foscue, another Rule 5-eligible who will almost certainly be added to the 40-man, could be among the players who get a crack at the job.

Lineup looks good.

Is Eovaldi going all 9? Because if not, then who?

Heaney, Leclerc and Chapman (who cares) not available.

Stratton? Smith? Perez? Burke? Sborz? Uh...I'm guessing Perez for middle innings, and then ?

We need to clinch tonight. Our best remaining pitcher goes up against their worst remaining. And our next two starters are going to be bullpen guys (either Bradford, Perez, or Heaney) with Gray hitting the IL. Tonight needs to be the night.
