This setback creates even more uncertainty at the defensive end position for the Cowboys, who already have three ends expected to hit free agency next month: Greg Hardy, Jeremy Mincey and Jack Crawford. DeMarcus Lawrence also underwent back surgery in January but is not expected to miss any of the regular season.

While the Cowboys likely won't change their usual "best player available" approach in the draft, it could make pass rushers such as Ohio State's Joey Bosa a higher priority with the No. 4 pick in the April draft.
This will mark the second straight season the Cowboys will be without Gregory for at least four games early in the year. In 2015, the rookie from Nebraska suffered a high-ankle sprain in the opening win over the Giants. He was out of action for five games before returning to action against the Giants.


Gregory played 12 games but did not record a sack after registering three in the preseason. However, he did finish fourth on the team with 16 pressures.

There is a reason you pass on guys in the draft. I had high hopes this kid turned the corner. Just dumazz young and I am not gonna get caught mentality. Even though he already got caught.

Gregory let a lot of people down that were pulling for him.

you would think Gregory would have stayed clean, but he is obviously an idiot. so It now is a priority to find somebody,because I am not confident Gregory can stay clean. looks like a bust. tough choices at #4. Spence is a top 5 talent but I would target him only in a tradedown. Spence and Jack are freaks. jack would be a terror for any offense to deal with

it depends on jerruh. I was impressed with hardy in his 1st game,but after that I questioned his effort and dedication. Hardy just seems to be unfocused. if millions of dollars does not bring out the best in someone then we don't need him.

I don't change my draft strategy on 4 games. If the right guy is there we'll take him. But, this isn't going to change much. If Lawrence starts to have questions, maybe, but how many sacks did Gregory have last year?

He's still cheap contract wise, no way I cutting him. Maybe he wakes up and smells the roses, aubergine he doesn't, but there's no reason to be that drastic right now.

I know he's a talent, I just think the signing of Hardy and drafting of Gregory really undercuts what Garrett is trying to do. He has pushed for high character football guys, and was really on a good path

Understand but Gregorys on a rookie contract, cutting him doesn't save much, and just in case he opens his eyes and sees his future, I'm keeping him. Do you cut every player smoking weed? More than likely you can't fill out a roster if you do.

No, I get that you're right, I'm just sick and tired of stupid, ungrateful athletes. Gregory cost himself a ton of money because he couldn't lay off the stuff, and now, after a disappointing rookie year, he'll miss the first 4 games, which will surely set him back again. It's a smart financial move to keep him and take a chance, but cutting Randle didn't hurt us, cutting Hardy loose won't, and I personally don't think Gregory will ever pan out
