I don't know what the CFL rules are but this is a forward pass to a WR who catches the ball behind the LOS and then punts it. The play would also be a legal 4th down play in the NFL. However, in the NFL it would just be a downed/covered punt and since it was untouched by the defense it would automatically result in a change of possession, just like any other punt.

If this is in lieu of a standard kickoff restart/onside kick the issue would be the need to recover the ball 10 yards down field - which doesn't happen in this example. This is no different than a kickoff where the kicker kicks the ball 1 yard and dives on it, which would obviously be a penalty.

In the NFL, I’m not going to say I’m certain because I’ve never seen it tried, but I’m pretty sure you cannot catch a forward pass and then punt the ball even if the forward pass is behind the LOS. Heck I’m close to certain

Regardless the odd part was that they get the ball back in the CFL if they do this? That’s nuts.
