Goff's revitalization was siimply amazing to me and I have always given the Lions credit. But I just see more upside with Caleb than Bird Face. But you did make a really good point.
Completely agree about Goff and the Lions and I like the fact it's a new team in the mix for a title. Fell short this year and it happens but seem to be in great shape for the next several years.

Bears was the correct choice in terms of Caleb is younger than TL and has weapons around him. A solid draft and his offensive playbook could/should get the Bears at least into the WC mix to start.

I have yet to see a Bears fans admit that their team took the wrong QB. Was it necessary for Caleb to have a Bryce Young season? I had noticed it so I went searching Bears sites and forums, it's amazing how much in denial they are.
They took the right guy. They just needed to weed out the problems with the coaching staff. Hopefully they actually address the offensive line next.

Williams can still end up better than Daniels. Like I said, from a fans standpoint you can still like the Caleb Williams pick. From a front office standpoint, they screwed up.
They waited too long to address the coaching issues. That slate should've been wiped clean BEFORE Caleb came to town.

I understand all of this. I can also come up with examples to support my position. A ton of them.

Of course I realize things can change. There have been a whole lot of QBs who flashed early and didn't pan out. But are there any that played as well as Daniels has and then flamed out? I can't think of any, can you? RGIII was never the complete player that Daniels is so please don't go there.
But there are a ton of QBs who showed potential, who people believed just needed better coaching and they still didn't make it.

So to me the bottom line is this as I said: Caleb Williams may be a great QB someday and I hope he is. Jayden Daniels is already a great QB. So why is everyone afraid to acknowldege this?
Just be happy with your QB, he was a great pick. Doesn't mean you have to shit on everyone else. Caleb was the #1 pick without discussion. Let's not forget that Daniels was a super senior with extra experience.

I don't think anyone has played as well as Daniels in their rookie season and then flamed out, but that doesn't mean that Williams won't surpass him in year 2 or year 3. If there was a re-Draft today Williams wouldn't be picked at #1, but that's true of a lot of #1 picks. It doesn't automatically mean those picks were a mistake.

As I said I set my self up by going out on a limb. And clearly Daniels set the bar so high a regression is probaby inevitiable. But even with Stroud's regression and Bryce Young's improvement the truth is CJ Streoud was still a better QB than Bryce Young was in 2023 and I think that point is important here.

Again did we give the Young/Stroud thing 3 years? Why is this different?
Stroud certainly fell off in his 2nd year. He also was drafted by the much more competent and competitive team. I'm personally giving Young more time before I call him a bust. He looked pretty good at times this year without much help around him beyond his holdover RB (that was supposed to be phased out by a rookie that couldn't get on or stay on the field).

Goff's success has been easy to explain; the Lions OL. He wasn't terrible for the Rams, he just wasn't a big game player and couldn't do what McVay wanted out of him. He hasn't really shed that yet.

That was my initial reaction as well, but he'd already been brought up in the conversation so it would have been repetition. There was also an argument that RG3 was curtailed by injury rather than flaming out. There are multiple QBs who had decent 1st seasons but didn't progress any further. There's also the point that just because a great rookie season hasn't flamed out before doesn't mean that it couldn't happen to Daniels. However, I don't see it as a fight and even if it was a fight a wouldn't have a dog in it. Daniels has had a great start and i'm going to leave it at that.

You don't think Daniels' frail frame is an injury risk for a running QB?

It will be interesting to see how Washington moves forward. Have they truly turned a corner on their recent past and will be able to continue to build this roster properly? Their OC has been drawing interest in the hiring circle, will the offense look the same next season? Curious to see what happens, as they already appear well ahead of schedule.

Daniels could get injured, but so could any player. Sleight frame QBs are perceived as being more injury prone. I don't have data to compare perception to reality. I don't see him flaming out. I don't think of RG3 as a flame-out. Daniels is a more cerebral QB than RG3 and he's less dependent on his physical abilities. The Commanders aren't a team I follow closely.

Lol, what is this clown even talking about?
Smith is probably the successor to the Andy Dalton line. IE a better QB could win the Super Bowl and a worse QB QB couldn't. In 2024 Smith asked for a longer contract with securities but the team declined. Smith reached contract escalator targets in 2024 so his final contract year in 2025 has changed from a non-guaranteed $25M to a non-guaranteed $31M. It's unclear whether he'll be cut, traded, or retained. WR Metcalf is subject to trade speculation and WR Lockett is likely to become a cap casualty. The team needs new personnel at all 3 interior OL positions. The team has fired the OC and hasn't yet announced a replacement. Smith isn't known for his patience and he would like to organise offseason work-out and training preparations for 2025...but things are a little complicated.

Appears could be true... Rice played until 42 years old and had 30 receptions his last year in league.

NFL 40 and over club (lots of QBs, kickers, punters, some lineman... 1 WR and 1 TE (no receptions after 33 years old)
  • Favre 2 career receptions for -9 yards
    • 1992 age 23, his 1st completed pass to himself in NFL for -7 yards (I remember the play well)
    • 2009 age 40
  • Brady 3 career receptions for 65 yards
    • 2001 age 24
    • 2015 age 38
    • 2018 age 41
