This business of giving players these huge contracts and then trying to dump them later has the markings of Kevin Demoff all over it. Why this pile O' dogshit is still in the front office is a mystery to me!
yeah, the expensive contracts is what makes them almost untradeable, thus why Rams could only get a late 3rd round pick and a scrub TE for him. This business of giving players these huge contracts and then trying to dump them later has the markings of Kevin Demoff all over it. Supposedly if he cut him before the start of the new season we only owe him 1.5 million and thats all. Do we know he will able to play and stay healthy? Why not cut him save all that money and sign a guy like Mayfield for 10-15 mil? I know it's BRUTAL since we gave up so much for Stafford, but I'd do it.That would make absolutely no sense.
That cap hit alone would be crippling.
And why trade for the guy and give him that huge extension to get rid of him a year later? Especially when they have no one else to start.

I believe his money kicks in day one of the 2023 season, so we have to work fast
Weird, ESPN says this "Stafford's minuscule $1.5 million salary is already guaranteed, but if the Rams don't cut him, they'll be committing an additional $57 million guaranteed for future seasons." ...
But wouldn't surprise me if they are wrong.
Interesting.... Hate to say it, I'd prob cut him now and take the hit this year to open space for future seasons. That might be true of actual cash payouts, but I believe if cut his prorated signing bonus all accelerates into this season, which is $36M ($12M each for 3 years remaining) in addition to that $1.5M base salary in terms of cap hit. $57M more becomes guaranteed on 3/17 (his $6.5m option bonus for this season plus his 2024 salary).

They never learn from their mistakesGood question. What a crappy situation we are in right now. We pulled another Goff situation by resigning Stafford too early and for too much.
Lost our best DB for basiccally nothing, lost our best edge rusher for noting and now we lose one of the best Kickers for nothing. Could be another long year next year.

Could have tagged him but he would be a luxury on next years team. That kicker got a record deal. No need to overpay a PK, especially on a rebuilding team.
Stafford’s extension came after they won the SB.What would be the alternative? Having a cuttable starting QB and moving forward with a career backup as a starting QB? They got a Super Bowl victory out of these moves, other franchises would love to fail so terribly.
